Boom length
Major Parts:
Elements: the “rods” or the individual dipoles of an antenna; l - an element’s length; d - distance
between two elements
Boom: the support that holds the elements and other parts in place; length (lambda, λ) is
expressed in meters ;
Instructions:
Calculate for the design parameters of a UHF LPDA antenna given a UHF channel range
and number of elements.
Report final design values in four decimal places (reminder: do not use four-decimal placed
values for calculations). It can be type-written or hand-written.
No need to draw nor model the antenna, just calculations.
Given per student: Number of channels N = 3; Number of elements n = 7; Channel range
assignment: see the last page
For lower freq of range: fL = 6 (NL-14) + 470 MHz N = Nth channel of the
given channel range (Lowest-Highest)
For higher freq of range, compute first for the “fL” (or denoted as fh) of the max or
highest (H) channel of the given channel range:
fH = fh + 6 MHz
l1 = λ /2 ; ln = λn /2 where λn = c / fH
