Comments On the Result (no less than 100 words):

The book was quite interesting, and the students took the effort to acquire not just a passive
knowledge of the texts like last semester. Perhaps because they are older and more
experienced, or perhaps because Canada and the US are more interesting for them than
Ireland, the UK, and Australia, they discussed more avidly and at times tried to put the
topics in perspective, in relation to China or other countries themselves (unlike last year,
when I had to push them to do that).

Unlike last term, when they wrote a test and showed poorer results than I expected, the
final exam this time was oral. It complemented the presentations each student did – we had
two or three present the unit for each class. Since this class is bigger than Class 1 it turned
out that most students had only 2 presentations, a few of them 3, and only 1 student 4
presentations. For this reason, the number of those who have a 90-100 grade is somewhat
smaller than in the other class (both in absolute number and in proportion), and yet the
average grade for both classes is about the same, which shows that both classes liked this
subject and put an effort into mastering the material.

Altogether students were more interested in this course than in Oral English, although less
noticeably so in Class 2 than in Class 1 – again probably because they found the course
book more appealing.
