QUESTION 1

According to Wikipedia (2001), the internet is the global system of interconnected computer
networks that use the internet protocol suite (TCP/IP) to link devices worldwide. The internet
is a revolutionary technology and has changed the way people work, interact with each other
and interchange information. Our everyday life has been greatly shaped with the invention of
internet as people are using the internet frequently for most of their needs. Some people said
that the internet creates many problems. Personally, I agree with this statement. Although
there are some good with the internet, it does not come with the negative side. Everything has
its pros and cons.

First of all, widespread use of Internet is related to new and innovative technological devices
like smartphones and computers and we are changing those devices more frequently than
ever before. Thus we are creating a throwaway society and contributing to the production of
more dangerous garbage than our previous generations. Furthermore, social media, games,
entertaining videos, etc., which are available online are contributing to the online addiction
among many teenagers. Laziness, for instance, is one of the most severe consequences of
overreliance on Internet and that stops people from doing important things for themselves and
others. In addition, people are becoming less active, both socially and physically, and that is
mainly because they are using the Internet all the time. As a result, our health condition is
deteriorating and our social life is in jeopardy.  Finally, our privacy is hanging in a vulnerable
position and our security is in a risky state due to our dependency on the Internet.

The easy access to the internet may create an environment rife with illegal related use which
may pose a threat to our society. The searching engine, Google for instance, giving us a
convenient way to find out all the formation that we need though, could have brought forth a
dangerous avenue to a drug or sexually related use. Online chatroom, a well-known access,
could have encouraged the prostitution on the internet. What's more, it's not surprising news
today that the drug dealer communicate with buyers and trade their goods throughout
network. Since there isn't any restriction of access to the Internet, the problems with illegal
use will definitely last for a long stretch of time.

In addition to this, the internet has also created problems in the financial world also.
Nowadays, people are being misguided in a way that many hackers, spammers, and digital
fraud make people fool. For example, a man is being made fool by one of the hackers on the
internet. He has asked him to register with a website which can give assistance to go abroad
and for registration he has to pay online. He has given his credit card number. His credit card
number is being used by the hacker and he made a lot of transactions from his credit card
number.

The internet, if used wrongly, can easily lead to psychological problems. For instance, an
internet-addicted person tends to be isolated, self-centred and unsociable. For another, it is
obvious that there is a sharp rise in the number of cyber-crimes. More and more financial
crimes such as money laundering are committed via the internet. In addition, it also has
negative impacts on young people because there are a lot of obscene and violent contents on
line.

To conclude, we can say that everything has its own pros and cons and it totally depends on
the user. Although the internet creates many problems but it has also benefitted us in many
ways.

QUESTION 2

It cannot be denied that education is the first thing a student takes to build his or her future.
As society develops, more and more students are no longer limited to their home town to seek
knowledge. Instead, they have the opportunity to study in a developing city even to attend a
school in foreign country. Many far-sighted parents think it is better to study abroad.
However, studying abroad has its benefits and drawbacks.

Among the pros of studying abroad is you can learn new culture. Living in a new country will
allow you to experience a completely different way of living. You can try exotic foods, listen
to music you have never heard before, and learn about traditions specific to different
countries. The things you learn will stick with you through life, ensuring you are a much
knowledgeable and open person than you were at the beginning.

Besides that, studying abroad can teach you invaluable life lessons about what you do and do
not enjoy and you learn great independence skills. Some of these things may sound trivial,
but it may be the first time you have to budget for yourself, cook and clean for yourself, do
the shopping and so on. You will also get a great sense of freedom, meaning you will have to
learn how to discipline yourself. It is all too easy to forget that one of the reasons you came
abroad to study and it is important that you focus a large part of your time on your academic
studies and not solely on your newfound freedom and social life.

Although studying abroad seems to be a happy thing, you also have to consider its
drawbacks. Among others is culture shock. When you are going to study abroad, you only
think about the time you are going to spend, but you forgot that one day you will have to
come back to your home country. It can be as hard to live in another country as to come back
to your own. This feeling is called reverse culture shock. You will change during your time
abroad and return as a different person. But so do the places and people back home. Time
will not stay still, just because you are not there and you will sometimes feel excluded in your
old group of friends or feel unfamiliar in your own home town.

Another big disadvantage of studying abroad can be the costs. Studying abroad can be
expensive. The cost of studying abroad will depend on your major, the university and the
country or city you choose. Keep in mind that many countries do not allow a foreign student
to work, so you need to have enough money before your study semester or year, or have
someone from home supporting you. Airfare also can make a pretty big expense.

As the conclusion, while studying abroad offers great opportunities for a better future, it also
has challenges that we must try our best to overcome what happened to make our dream
come true. Therefore if you have a chance I think you should take that chance to study
abroad.

QUESTION 4

Pollution is defined as the introduction of contaminants into the natural environment that
causes adverse change [ CITATION Wik011 \l 17417 ] . Pollution can take form of chemical
substance or energy, such as noise, heat or light. Pollutants, the component of pollution can
be either foreign substances/energies or naturally occurring contaminants. Nowadays,
pollution has become the biggest global problem because it has grown in magnitude and
threatens to endanger all life on the planet. Among the causes of environmental pollution are
deforestation and hazardous gas emissions. There are also a few types of pollution such as,
water, air, noise, thermal and soil pollution. There are several ways to handle the
environmental pollution breakout.

Governments could certainly make more effort to reduce air pollution. They could introduce
laws to limit emissions from factories or to force companies to use renewable energy from
solar, wind or water power. They could also impose ‘green taxes’ on drivers and airline
companies. In this way, people would be encouraged to use public transport and to take fewer
flights abroad, therefore reducing emissions.

Individuals should also take responsibility for the impact they have on the environment. They
can take public transport rather than driving, choose products with less packaging, and
recycle as much as possible. Most supermarkets now provide reusable bags for shoppers as
well as ‘banks’ for recycling glass, plastic and paper in their car parks. By reusing and
recycling, we can help to reduce waste.

Societies, companies and business owners should be encouraged to use environmentally

friendly products. Eco friendly products are biodegradable and do not cause any harm against
the ecosystem. However, it is still common to find that certain individuals are still using
chemical products as part of their practice considering that these products are cheaper option.
For instance, some farmers are still using chemical fertilizer instead of organic one. Using
chemical products caused fatal air and water pollution. Therefore, encouraging the society
and business owners to use environmental friendly product will help to reduce the damages to
the earth.
As a conclusion, improving the ecosystems requires great deal of efforts as it provides a
better living place and atmosphere for all living things. Thus, it is hoped that the government
can impose strict regulations as well as enforce the society to utilize eco-friendly products
with the aim of improving the current state of environment.

QUESTION 5

Global warming is the observed and projected increases in the average temperature of Earth’s
atmosphere and oceans [ CITATION Tim17 \l 1033 ]. It also refers to climate change that causes
an increase in the average of temperature. However, global warming are caused by natural
events and human that are believed to contribute to the increase in average temperature.
Many problems might result from global warming and one of the problems is increasing sea
level. This could lead to the flooding of lower lying coastal area and also cities that in time
could vanish completely.

There are many causes behind global warming, but it is mostly due to greenhouse effect.
Greenhouse effect is a phenomenon where gases such as carbon dioxide trap heat from the
sun which causes the global temperature to rise above optimal level. Activities of human
beings contribute equally in increase of global warming. Moreover, countries are becoming
more industrialized and are dumping waste in the atmosphere without realizing its harmful
effects and severity of the issue. Rising temperatures due to global warming would result in
melting of polar ice caps which will trigger severe floods, droughts and other extreme
weather conditions.

Another cause for global warming is due to human activities such as deforestation, building
factories, driving more cars, increasing numbers of vehicles etc. Human usage of many fossil
fuels and these all lead to production of gases and hence rising in global temperature. The
greatest increase in the number of population leads to a great decline of natural resources.
Moreover the cutting of trees and destruction of wildlife habitats will lead to animal
extinction at the end.

There are several things that we, as individuals can do to deal with global warming. One of
them is to stop making carbon dioxide. We can do this by switching from oil, coal and gas to
renewable energy source. The second one is to plant more trees because trees absorb carbon
dioxide and produce oxygen during the photosynthesis process. Another one is to use less
energy and recycle more products. If we use less energy and are more environmentally
friendly, the earth’s temperature may not rise too much. As for the government, they need to
reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and promote alternatives. And also, the government
must enforce strictly the laws on environment.

To conclude, although global warming is a serious issue, there are steps that governments and
individuals can take to reduce its effects. Making small changes now in the way we live
means avoiding huge changes in the future. Scientists, government and individuals must work
together to overcome this serious threat.

QUESTION 6

Freedom of speech in society is very important and everybody has the freedom to express
their opinion and perspective, is he or she feel that they have positive ideas on the society.
Speech is a powerful tool mankind can ever get. Like the old saying, the tongue is sharper
than a sword, meaning speech has the power to change bad to good and vice versa. Some
people argue that freedom of speech is not necessary. However, others state that it helps in
strengthening rules and regulations of the society. I believe that of the betterment and to
eliminate the wrongdoing of society people should raise their voice freely.

A person after obtaining the freedom of speech tends to become more responsible and is also
aware of the liabilities. In addition, the power transforms the society making it more
progressive with gradual evolution. It is an amazing option to express the view however
racism and offending speech should be prohibited by the government in social media.

Freedom of speech ensures the promotion of the spirit of innovation. Developed countries
provide the amenable environment to people so that they can think freely and create new
products as well as services. Care should be taken by the various communities that fascism is
not promoted in the guise of freedom.

In this globalized world, the diversification is the key factor. People of different race, beliefs,
culture and values are living together. It is freedom of speech that provides a normative
society where everyone is free to discuss and express his or her thoughts and others are ought
to respect. It is the only pragmatic way where the individuals can live happily under the same
roof.

A country with freedom of speech will rarely experience civil war or an armed conflict
because the problems of the society can be dealt in a free and transparent manner. Non-
violence is the primary tool in the hands of the public to bring in far-reaching changes. One
of the most important advantages of the freedom of speech is that it helps to bring in peaceful
changes without muzzling the government. People can mobilize support and protest on the
street if their demands are justified and valid.
For the conclusion, freedom of speech is a valuable asset for any civilized society. Without it,
people are not able to enjoy their rights and fair criticism of government is a virtue that
makes government be more honest and less corrupt. Therefore, I truly believe that citizen
should have freedom to speak in favour or against of anyone. Facing the problems and
keeping quite can bring disaster and put us in soup. Instead of giving up the problems we
need to become unite and work together.
