EXPLORING EVAPORATION

AIM

To develop children understanding on the process of water evaporation.

RATIONALE

A week ago, I saw Cash and Phoenix were playing in the water and were
building streams and dam in the kitchen garden. Their interest was mainly
exploration of water and how water can be used in their play of building dams.
They have developed a great understanding of how water can be used in
different ways and it was shown in their communication with the teacher.
Building upon their learning experiences from last week. We decided to choose
water as the main focus to enhance their understanding on the process of
evaporation.

WHEN

We are doing this learning experience outside because we need sun to


demonstrate the process of evaporation.

HOW

Introduction
To introduce the process of water evaporation we will use the book as the one
of our resource. The book, ‘ The drop goes plop’ by Sam Godwin will help
introducing the water cycle to the children and give them basic understanding
of evaporation. After reading the book and getting children familiarise with the
term, Evaporation, water cycle, droplets, vapour and condensation. We will go
outside.

Activity

Children will be required to write their names on their containers and fill that
with water. After they all have their containers and brushes. They will be asked
to paint on the floor, wood, wall or they can put water droplets on the sand.
They will be asked to examine what happens when they put water.

Ongoing scaffolding and questing will be there.

1. What happened when you put water on wall?


2. What happened when you put water on sand?
3. How long does it take water to get evaporate?
4. Which one was quicker, water or sand?
5. Why it was quicker, building on their knowledge of the how surface or
density of the object matters in order to water to get evaporate.
6. Can you draw the process of evaporation?
7. Where you will start your drawing from?

EVALUATION

Children will be evaluated on their level of understanding of the concept of the


evaporation. How well they are able to differentiate between the densities of
the object. How they see the process of evaporation. Also, on their skills of
problem solving, Inquiry, experimentation, hypothesizing, researching and
investigating.

EXTENSION

To extend on their learning, we would introduce them different forms of


water. For example, solid and liquid.
