1. Craft your own definition of social entrepreneurship. What facts do you know and what issues
would you take into account?
Social entrepreneurship is pursuing social aims in an innovative way. It is indeed the combination of
passion and determination; passion of social mission and determination of a business venture. It
focuses on the creation of public goods and positive externalities.
The social economy sector presents overall positive growth over time. Social entrepreneurship is
certainly gaining more importance these days. Numbers of entrepreneurs are committed to support
social innovation and social entrepreneurship. The goal of social entrepreneurship is to promote the
cause of social and environmental objectives to have long lasting impact. Thus, it is all about the
diversification of social economy, providing new opportunities for growth: e-commerce, recycling, highly
creative projects, logistics and the ‘green’ economy.
The issues that I would take into account includes youth development, immediate attention to
disadvantaged groups like individuals with disabilities, convicts, homeless, individuals with substance
abuse histories), any kind of discrimination, poverty, HIV/AIDS, terrorism, and repeated natural
disasters.
