The Empress of Japanese Pop | Ayumi Hamasaki, also known as “Ayu’, is called “the Empress of Japanese Pop’. She is hugely | popular in Japan and is one of the country’s few singers ever to become known overseas. She ‘was born in 1978 on Japan's southern island, Kyushu. Hamasaki was raised as an only child by her mother and grandmother. Her father had left the family when she was three and never agaii came into contact with her.
