VECTOR MECHANICS
SITUATION 1
A force of F = 750 N acts from A (2, -2, 5) m to B (5, 4, 8) m.
1. Find the components of the force.
2. Find the inclination of the force to the x, y and z-axes.
3. Determine the moment of the force about the origin.
4. Determine the moment of the force about the line passing from
C (-1, 0, 2) m to D (1, -3, 5) m.
VECTOR MECHANICS
SITUATION 2
A concurrent force system in space is composed of 3 forces
described as follows: Force A is 700 N acts through origin and (3,
4, 2) m. Force B is 260 N and acts through the origin and (4, 1, -
2) m. Force C is 980 N and acts through the origin and (2, -3, 3)
m.
5. What are the components of the resultant force?
6. What is the resultant force?
VECTOR MECHANICS
SITUATION 3
A force vector F = (210i + 750j - 355k) N is acting in space. The
tail of the force F is at the origin. Along with the force vector, a
line AB in space is passing thru A (0, 2, 1) m and B (2, 5, -3) m.
7. Find the magnitude of the force F when resolved to line AB
8. Find the inclination of the force to the x, y and z-axes as the
force is resolved along line AB.

of 4000 kg with the center of gravity
at its G.
9. Calculate the tension at cable AD
10. Calculate the tension at cable BD
11. Calculate the tension at cable CD

12. If each one of the ropes will
break when it is subjected to a
tensile force of 450 N,
determine the maximum uplift
force, F that the balloon can
have before one of the ropes
breaks.
VECTOR MECHANICS
SITUATION 5
If the tension developed in
each of the cables cannot
exceed 450 lb,
13. Determine the largest
weight of the crate that can
be supported.
14. What is the force
developed along strut AD?
VECTOR MECHANICS
15. Determine the reactions
at the roller support A, the
ball-and-socket joint D, and
the tension in cable BC for
the plate.

16. The uniform 7-m steel shaft
has a 200 kg and is supported
by a ball-and-socket joint at A in
the horizontal floor. The ball end
B rest against the smooth
vertical walls as shown.

walls at B.
