ABSTRACT
Throughout history, we have looked for ways to transform energy through multiple
processes such as steam engines, internal combustion engines, taking
advantage of the energy from the sun, from rivers, but always looking for ways to
obtain the best performance, one of these forms of obtaining energy is nuclear
energy, which is divided into two: nuclear fusion and fission, the latter being the
most widely used in different industries, which is why the naval industry has
undertaken the search to implement systems of nuclear propulsion on ships from
the last century. Initially there were 4 nuclear-powered civilian victims, NS
Savannah from the United States was the first of its kind, NS Mutsu from Japan,
Russian icebreaker Lenin and NS Otto Hahn, the German Federal Republic and
which will be the object of analysis in this work. The common thing that these
ships had was what PWR reactors had installed and the fuel problem was solved
for those years. This type of propulsion has evolved in search of a balance
between the efficient and the economic and one of the great advantages of using
nuclear energy that can last for years without a "new fuel refueling".
The purpose of this work is to study the application and evaluation of the behavior
of the nuclear propulsion system of the ship NS OTTO HAHN, using a Sankey
diagram and compare it with current propulsion systems in cargo transport
vessels, later using the software COMSOL Multiphysics or MATLAB, will simulate
the behavior of the PWR reactor, to subsequently carry out an analysis and get
conclusions, in order to validate the concept of efficiency against other types of
propulsion.
