Aerospace Design and System Engineering Elements I, 9 April 2019
Name:………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
Study number:……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
You are a conceptual aircraft designer at AeroIndustries Inc. You are currently working on the
development of a new passenger jet aircraft. The overall design objective is to minimise the aircraft’s
structural weight.
You are required to calculate the most relevant design data and complete the Aircraft Design Data
Sheet. Data given in italic do not have to be recalculated or checked by you but must be used. In
addition, you are required to motivate a number of design decisions you have taken. Finally, you are
required to make a three‐view drawing of the aircraft (scale 1:100) on the given A3 sheet you have
designed as well as an accurate cross section of the fuselage (scale 1:25) on the given A4 sheet. The
parts that need to be drawn are indicated in the table below. The drawing must be an accurate and
to‐scale drawing on the graph paper given to you. Relevant design decisions must be made visible in
the drawing. The aircraft can be considered to be symmetric. It will be sufficient for the top view and
front view of the aircraft to draw only the left hand side of the aircraft. Use the following lay‐out
(dimensions in mm).
Only the Aircraft Design Data sheet and the drawings on the A4 and A3 graph paper may be
handed in. Do not forget to mention your name and study number on all of them.
Items not mentioned in the aircraft data sheet do not have to be calculated and drawn.
1
In the drawings the following items must be clearly visible and drawn in the correct position on the
aircraft:
