Practical Problems with Solution

2. Lung cancer screening was conducted in community setting by Department of

Community Medicine in association with TB & Chest.
A] The data set of the smoking status of patients of lung cancer patients, collected as
yes (y) and no (n).
The raw data appears as n, y, n, n, n, y, n, y, n, n, n, y, n, n, y, n, y, n, n, y.
Prepare frequency distribution table and represent the data in suitable form and
interpret.
B] Following are the data of Blood Group of lung cancer patients with Rh type; +
(Positive) and – (Negative).
The raw data appears as A+, O+, O+, O+, AB+, A+, O+, O+, AB-, O-, O+, A+, AB+,
A+, O+, O+, A-, O+, AB+, A+, O+, O+, O+, B-, A+, A+, O-, A-, A+, A+, O+, O+, O+,

Prepare frequency distribution table and represent the data in suitable form and
interpret.

Solution:

A] Date type = Qualitative Data; Category = 2 (Yes / No)

Variable = Smoking Status The given data – Discrete form

Table: Smoking status of lung cancer patients

Smoking Status Tally Marks No. of Patients %

Yes IIII II 7 35.0
No IIII IIII III 13 65.0
Total 20 100.0

Interpretation: From the above table, maximum no. of patients 13 (65%) were non-
smoking and 7(35%) were smoking.
