SELECTOR INTRODUCTION Thank you, and congratulations on your choice ofthe Roland US-20 Unit Selector. ‘The US-20 is a Unit Selector that allows you to connect two devices that feature a GK IN con- rector (such as the GR-1/09 Guitar Synthesizer, VG-8 VeGuitar System, GI-10 Guitar-MIDI Interface, etc) and select to play ‘whichever one you want, or play both of them at the same time using one guitar. To ensure proper operation, and many years of trouble-free service, please take the time to read through this Owner's Manual before starting out IMPORTANT NOTES Placement + Do not subject the unit to temperature extremes (eg,, direct sunlight in an enclosed vehicle). Avoid using or storing the unit in dusty or humid areas, or aress that are subject tohigh levels of vibration. Maintenance + For everyday cleaning wipe the unit with a soft, dry cloth or one that has been slightly dampened with water. To remove stubborn dint, use a mild, non-abrasive detergent. Afterwards, be sure to wipe the unit thorough ly with asoft, dry cloth + Never use benzene, thinners, alcohol or sol- vents of any kind, to avoid the possibility of discoloration and /or deformation. Additional Precautions * Protect the unit from strong impact. * Do not allow objects or liquids of any kind to penetrate the unit. In the event of such an occurrence, discontinue use immediately. Contact qualified service personnel as soon as possible. * Should a malfunction occur, or if you suspect there isa problem, discontinue use immediate- ly. Unit Connectors Here is where you connect units (such a those in the GR series, the VG-8, or GI-10) capable of being played with a synthesizer driver (GK- 2A, available separately). Use the 13-pin spe- cialzed cable (C-13D) supplied with the US20. UNIT A Connector The unit connected to this connector can be played when [A] has been selected with the [4/6] pedal switch on the top pane. UNIT Connector The unit connected to this connector can be played when [B] has been selected with the [4/6] pede! switch on the top panel 2. GKIN Connector Connect a synthesizer driver (GK-2A; avail- able separately) to this connector using the 13 pin specialized cable (eg, C-13A, C-13C, C- 13D) supplied with your GR series synth or other unit 3. [APB Pedal Switch This is the pedal switch that allows you to select which device isto be played, either the fone connected to the UNIT A connector, or the one connected to UNIT B 4. (BOTH Pedal Switch When switched ON, this pedal allows you to play both of the devices connected to the Unit ‘connectors at the same time MAKING THE CONNECTIONS After the GK-2A has been installed properly fon your guitar, make the connections as shown below. For details on how to set up the (GK-2A, please read the GK-24’s owner's man- ual * Make sure that all the units are switched of before making connections. If you make connections ‘without switching off the units, speakers or other units may be damaged, Be sure to use only the supplied cables (eg, C- 134, C-13C, C-13D). Using any other cables can cause problems. Also, make sure that the combined length of the cable run, stretching from the GK-2A through the US-20 to Unit A (or B), does not exceed 10 meters. For this reason, the C-13B (10 ‘m) cable cannot be used, because it isto long for Proper operation. "Power to the US-20 is supplied by the unit con- nected to the UNIT A connector, through the 13- i specialized cable. The power to the GK-2A is also supplied from UNIT A, via the US-20. Therefore, if you connect a device only to the UNIT B connector, nether the US-20 nor the GK-2A will work. To use only one device, connect it to the UNIT A connector, outer wih ck 2 re UNIT SELECTION Now that you have finished making the con- nections, you are ready to use the US-20 to select units to be played. 1, Set the Select switch on the GK-2A to [SYNTH]. 2. Rotate [SYNTH VOL] on the GK-2A fully clockwise 3, Play the guitar Unit Selection with the [A/B] Pedal Switch Depress the [A/B] pedal, and the unit to be played wil change.
