Installation Sequence
Plan the layout of the Cell

Check hardware and software requirements

Install Cell Manager and Installation Server from DVD

Install additional Installation Servers from DVD

Register Installation Servers with the Cell Manager

Install the clients using the Cell Manager GUI (push)


or manually from media

Import manually installed clients into the cell


Installation Planning
– How many Cells will be configured?
– Where will the Cell Console be installed?
– Which system will be the Cell Manager?
– How many clients will be in the Cell?
– Which platforms will be backed up?
– Will the clients all be on the same LAN?
– Is remote installation possible for the clients?
– How many Installation Servers are needed?
– Which system will be Installation Servers?
– Which Applications will be integrated with Data Protector?
– Is this a new installation or an upgrade?

Installation of Cell Manager on Unix
Verify that host name resolution is enabled (DNS)

Verify that sufficient disk space is available for IDB growth


(create volume/partition)

Install Data Protector using omnisetup.sh

Verify services “omni tcp 5555”

Verify system startup file /etc/…/omni

Verify that daemons are running (crs,mmd,rds)

Installation Servers
Installation Server on Windows
• May be installed with Cell Manager software (default)
• May be installed with a client
• Client (agents) may not be remotely installed to an installation server
• Required if UNIX Cell Manager needs to push software to Windows clients

Installation Server on UNIX/Linux


• May be installed with UX Cell Manager software (default)
• May be installed with or after a client
• Client (agents) may not be remotely installed to an installation server
• Required if Windows Cell Manager needs to push software to UNIX clients
• Any Unix Installation server may push to any Unix client
