Important information about your assessment

Unit/s assessed CHCCCS012 – Prepare and maintain beds

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to apply bed making and cleaning practices to a range of beds to ensure that
people can safely occupy a clean bed.
This unit applies to workers in a range of setting where beds may be occupied or unoccupied. Where beds in acute setting are
occupied, bed making will usually be performed in an assisting role or under the supervision of an appropriate health professional
according to organisational policy.
The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand
standards and industry code of practice.

Assessment tasks

Task Description

1 RPL Recognition of prior learning is considered upon application.


Application involves the assessment of the candidates relevant
prior learning (including formal and non-formal learning) to
determine the credit outcomes of the candidates application for
credit towards the UOC.

2 Knowledge Candidate will complete the attached Written Assessment task,


Assessment distinguishing the appropriate answers to two (2) multiple
choice questions, two (2) true/false questions and two (2) short
(Written Q & A) answer questions.

3 Knowledge Candidate will undertake knowledge assessment entailing the

candidate. The candidate will respond verbally to each

4 Direct Observation The candidate will be asked to demonstrate the physical task of

You will have four weeks to resubmit your work for reassessment. While we pride ourselves on employing tutors that focus on
meeting the needs of our learners and industry, it remains the responsibility of the student to consult with the appropriate tutor of
further clarification is required.
A result of not yet competent will be given to students who are unable to demonstrate competency after three unsuccessful
attempts.

Candidate instructions The RPL process commences with an interview to determine your
eligibility & prospects for a successful completion. Throughout the first
interview (via telephone) the assessor will ask general questions
pertaining to your work & qualifications to establish a profile of your
knowledge & skills. The goal of the interview is to ascertain whether
there will be sufficient available evidence that will support the RPL
application.

Upon a successful first interview you progress to the initial formal
assessment. The objective of this stage is to gather the evidence that
can be used to support your RPL.
The following written, verbal & observation assessment tasks, RPL
application & Third Party report, when completed & deemed satisfactory;
represent the performance skills and knowledge of the benchmarks to
achieve qualification of statement of attainment for the UOC
CHCCCS012-prepare and maintain beds.
You are to complete all that apply, following each candidate instruction
criteria in each assessment task.
The assessor will formally consider all evidence provided & compare
them to the requirements of the units of competence. As such they may
identify gaps of the UOC that you do not meet, they may advise you that
you can address this gap by undertaking a component of training.

Assessment overview RPL: Recognition of prior learning is considered upon


application.
Application involves the assessment of the candidates relevant
prior
learning (including formal and non-formal learning) to determine
the
credit outcomes of the candidates application for credit towards
the UOC.

Knowledge Assessment (Written Q & A): Candidate will


complete the
attached Written Assessment task, distinguishing the appropriate
answers to two (2) multiple choice questions, two (2) true/false
questions
and two (2) short answer questions.

Knowledge Assessment (Verbal Q & A): Candidate will


undertake
knowledge assessment entailing the assessor asking a series of
five (5)
verbal questions of the candidate. The candidate will respond
verbally to
each question.

Direct Observation (Performance Evidence): The candidate


will be
asked to demonstrate the physical task of bed making in
accordance to

The direct observation (Performance Evidence) assessment will be


completed within the candidates workplace with the nominated JK
training house assessor, alternatively the assessment may take

overseeing & conducting the assessment will do so as set out in
the
Assessment task Assessor instructions for this assessment.

RPL Assessment is performed by the assessor within the JK


Training
House and marked directly against the RPL Assessment
instrument as
per the Assessor Instructions for this assessment.

Third Party Report – Assessor is required to contact the nominated


Third
Party person to clarify that they are qualified & have completed
the form,
in addition to clarifying the third party reporters role/position via
email.
The Assessor is to obtain a copy of the third party reporters
authenticated
qualifications. If any clarification is required pertaining to the

with the minimum standards set out in the Clinical and
Related Waste Management Policy Directive of the

 Effective segregation of various waste streams – ie for


waste classified as hazardous (Hazardous chemicals &

handled safely, including storage & disposal.

 Minimise handling of waste bags/skips & avoid decanting


from one bin to another – when they must be handled, all

Overall the tool is both user friendly & maps directly across the competency standard CHCCS012
prepare and maintain beds; fulfilling the rules & principles of assessment. It was well structured with the
