Index
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to apply bed making and cleaning practices to a range of beds to ensure that
people can safely occupy a clean bed.
This unit applies to workers in a range of setting where beds may be occupied or unoccupied. Where beds in acute setting are
occupied, bed making will usually be performed in an assisting role or under the supervision of an appropriate health professional
according to organisational policy.
The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand
standards and industry code of practice.

Task Description
4 Direct Observation The candidate will be asked to demonstrate the physical task of

Marking process
The unit you are undertaking is marked competent or not yet competent. Upon successful completion of this unit, you will be issued
with a Statement of Attainment.
Review Process
If your tutor assesses you as being not yet competent, you will be given oral and written feedback on areas needing improvement.
You will have four weeks to resubmit your work for reassessment. While we pride ourselves on employing tutors that focus on
meeting the needs of our learners and industry, it remains the responsibility of the student to consult with the appropriate tutor of
further clarification is required.
A result of not yet competent will be given to students who are unable to demonstrate competency after three unsuccessful
attempts.

Candidate instructions The RPL process commences with an interview to determine your
eligibility & prospects for a successful completion. Throughout the first
interview (via telephone) the assessor will ask general questions
pertaining to your work & qualifications to establish a profile of your
knowledge & skills. The goal of the interview is to ascertain whether
there will be sufficient available evidence that will support the RPL
application.
Requirements for The candidate must follow the criteria for each individual relevant
satisfactory completion assessment task below to receive a satisfactory result. The assessment
criteria is described within the table below.

Candidate instructions You are to complete the attached Written Assessment task,
distinguishing the appropriate answers to two (2) multiple choice
questions, two (2) true/false questions and two (2) short answer
questions. You will have 30 minutes to complete this task. Use a blue or
black pen only to document your responses. You are not permitted any
resources to assist you in answering the questions.
Requirements for To be marked satisfactory for this written component you must answer
satisfactory completion all 6 questions correctly and provide structured sentence responses
where required.

Report damaged pillows, mattresses, linen or faulty beds to appropriate personnel,
complete a biannual incident report via online hospital intranet, document the report
code onto paper & secure that to the faulty item before moving said damaged item to
allocated storage room.
2. When reusing clean linen describe how can you do this in accordance to hospital policy & procedure:
Sort, package, transport, & store clean linens in a manner that prevents risk of
contamination by dust, debris, soiled linen or other soiled items. Any clean linen within a
patients room or area of occupancy is only to be used for said patient. If in doubt refer to
the hospital policy pertaining to same.
