SAFEWALK ANTI SLIP FOR WET AREA

DESCRIPTION
Safewalk Anti Slip Floor Treatment, a revolutionary product for prevention of slip fall accidents
caused by wet or moist floors. Safewalk Anti Slip is manufactured by Safety Direct Group, United
Kingdom.
Safewalk Anti Slip Floor Solution is an invisible floor treatment. Once the floor is treated with
Safewalk Anti Slip, it retains the anti-slip properties in almost all conditions. Safewalk Anti Slip
ensures that the floor friction (DCoF) remains above a minimum of 36 PTV as per BSI standard
irrespective of the nature of the surface, whether wet or dry.
The best part is that Safewalk visually does not affect the color & texture of the floor. Safewalk is
so quick to work, that there is virtually no downtime.

 PRODUCT DESIGN
Safewalk Anti Slip Floor Treatment is a unique two-step anti slip treatment.
Solution 2 is a unique anti slip treatment that is formulated to create thousands of microscopic
shallow indentions on the surface of the flooring.
Solution 3 is a patented state of the art biotic polymer, that is water based, biodegradable, non-
toxic and not a culture medium (important for hospitals, kitchens, food & other bacteriologically
sensitive areas). This solutions forms minute hexagon, honeycomb structures on the surface
within a short period of time, usually seconds and bonds immediately.
When the surface is wet, these indentions and honeycomb structures get filled with water.
Thereafter, when someone stands on the wet surface and one foot starts to slide, the water is
squeezed out of the indentions and honeycomb structures. It turns the indentions and
honeycomb structures into thousands of microscopic suction cups that actually create a partial
vacuum and stops the foot from slipping.
Safewalk is not a coating, but it is an integral part of the surface structure, it cannot be washed
away, is not affected by sunlight or cleaning chemicals, and will last for years as long as the
surface is maintained as per recommendations with a monitoring schedule.
PROPERTIES
The values given below are average figures achieved in laboratory test. Actual values on site may
show variations from those quoted based on surface material.
Slip Resistance
The test report shows that a total of 40 tiles were submitted for testing. 20 tiles were treated with
Safewalk anti slip and 20 were untreated control tiles. Two tests were performed, namely as per
UK Slip Group Recommendations August 2005.

Tests were carried out for slipperiness of commonly used shoe material (4S-standard simulated
shoe soling) under dry and wet conditions.
1. 4S under dry conditions.
2. 4S under wet conditions.

The friction co-efficient is measured by calculating the reduction in movement of a pendulum,
which strikes the tile at a known angle and pressure. The higher the PTV number, the better the
grip. The treated tiles were compared against untreated tiles.
1. In dry conditions there is a good increase in grip from 45 PTV to 65 PTV (44%).
2. Under wet conditions an amazing 110% increase in grip! (From 20 PTV to 42 PTV).
Abrasion
The abrasion resistance test”, according to SABS 1449.
The “Abrasion or wear” test is known as the PEI test, (Porcelain Enamel Institute of America).
The number of revolutions of an abrasive wheel required to wear the glaze away are counted.
After treatment with Safewalk the number of revolutions of the abrasive wheel increased from
750 to 1500 which means that the tile's abrasive resistance doubled and by implication that a tile
treated with Safewalk should last twice as long as an untreated tile. The tile's PEI rating or class
was increased from III to IV.
Thus, it is can be seen that Safewalk will increase the amount of grip under dry and especially
under wet conditions whilst also increasing the life of the tile.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTION
Surface Preparation
The surface must be thoroughly cleaned using the supplied or procured degreaser to remove all
kinds of contaminants, dirt and grime. Safewalk Anti Slip Floor Treatment should be applied to
clean surface.
Mixing
The supplied chemical should not be mixed with water or any kind of diluting agent.
Application
Please follow the application procedure as per the application manual without any deviation.
Limitations
Safewalk Anti Slip Floor Treatment should never be used on hot surface or directly under the sun.
For outdoor application the most preferred times are either morning or evening.
Maintenance
Using the Safewalk Anti Slip Maintenance Cleaner Safewalk is a must to maintain the long- term
durability of the anti slip properties.

*Rough substrate profile can reduce the coverage considerably and need to be considered while estimating as per the site
conditions.

STORAGE & SHELF LIFE

Store the can in dry condition between 5ºC and 40ºC, away from source of heat and naked
flames, in the original, unopened packs. Shelf life is 36 months when stored as above.

 PRECAUTIONS
Health and Safety
SAFEWALK products are formulated from materials designed to achieve the highest level of
performance as safely as possible. However, specific components require proper handling and
suitable equipment, this information is given in the relevant safety data sheets. In all cases,
spillages or skin contamination should be cleaned as soon as practically possible, by dry wiping
of the affected area, and thorough washing with soap and water.
