    After the execution of Dr.

    Jose Rizal there are a lot of questions talk about if he really retracted or he died
    without retracting. There are people who believes that Rizal retracted the day before he died and there are
    people who do not believe that Rizal retracted. It will discuss here the arguments between those in favor
    who stated that Rizal retracted before the execution and those in favor who stated that Rizal did not retract.

    On December 30,1896, this is the day of execution of Rizal. After the execution of our national hero Dr.
    Jose P. Rizal there are controversies that said Rizal retracted before he died. La Voz Espanola and Diario
    de Manila's Narration, Father Balaguer's text, Father Manuel Garcia's Text and Letters of Josephine
    Bracken these are the arguments who are in favor of Rizal’s retraction. The first argument who are in favor
    of Rizal’s retraction are from the narration of La Voz Espanola and Diario de Manila's where according to
    Vano (1985) the one who presented the retraction text entitled “Light in Rizal’s Death Cell”. The second
    argument who are in favor of Rizal’s retraction is from Father Balaguer’s text on January 1897 where he
    said that he received the exact copy of the retraction document that is signed by Rizal.

    The third argument who are in favor of Rizal’s retraction is from Father Manuel Garcia’s text, On May
    18,1935 Father Manuel Garcia discovered the alleged original copy of the retraction document of Rizal and
    according to it that Rizal stated in the retraction document that “I declare myself a Catholic and in this
    religion in which I was born and educated I wish to live and die. I retract with all my heart whatever in my
    words, writings, publications and conduct has been contrary to my character as son of the Catholic
    Church.” The fourth argument who are in favor of Rizal’s retraction is from the Letters of Josephine
    Bracken, it stated on the letter that she and Rizal were married on 5 o’clock in the morning and the day
    before the execution of Rizal.
