Abstract
Current ly, several heat int egrat ion t echniques have been st udied, e.g.
HIDiC column, showing a diminut ion in energy consumpt ion in relat ion t o
convent ional dist illat ion column. In t his work, an approach for process
int ensificat ion in dist illat ion columns is st udied by merging bot h react ive
dist illat ion and heat int egrat ed dist illat ion column principles, result ing in
t he heat int egrat ed react ive dist illat ion column (r-HIDiC). A simulat ion
st udy has been performed in order t o compare t he performance of
react ive dist illat ion column and r-HIDiC column in t he synt hesis of t ert -
amyl met hyl et her (TAME). It was found t hat due t o int ernal energy
int egrat ion, t he r-HIDiC column achieves a bet t er performance wit h
energy saving around 8%. In addit ion, it can be seen t hat t he possibilit y
of r-HIDiC column t o operat e at different pressures bet ween t he
rect ifying and st ripping sect ions permit s t o overcome separat ion
limit at ions result ing from presence of azeot ropes.
