What is Waste ?
Waste are unwanted or unusable materials. Waste is any substance which is
discarded after primary use, or is worthless, defective and of no use. A by-
product by contrast is a joint product of relatively minor economic value.

Generation of Waste and type of waste


It is found in municipal solid waste (MSW) , primarily in the form of containers
such as beers and soft drink bottles , wines and liquor bottles and jars of wood,
cosmetics and other products.

Facts and Records


In 2018 , Glass generation in all product was 12.3 million tons in United States,
which was 4.2% of all MSW generation .

The amount of recycled glass container was 3.1 million tons in 2018 , for a
recycling rate of 31.3 % where the total amount of combusted glass in 2018
was 1.6 million tons , this was 4.8 % of all MSW combustion with energy
recovery that year.

In 2018 , landfills received approximately 7.6 million tons of MSW glass . This
was 5.2 % of all MSW landfilled that year
Use of glass waste
 It can be used as ornamentation items.
 Home decors can also be made out of it.
 Bird feeders, soap dispenser can also be made.
 Upcycled lamp and storage containers.
