LET’S GET STARTED

Read the story about Project:

Brave Kids and say a little prayer for children who are battling cancer.

Cancer is a deadly disease that has taken many lives, including children. It is
reported that an ‘’ average of 3,000 cases of cancer in children are being diagnosed
every year in the Philippines. ‘’ although many can still be cured, the World Health
Organization estimates that only two or three out of ten kids with cancer survive.’’

In order to help children with cancer and their parents. Paul and Sigrid Perez
started in November 2005 Project: Brave Kids (PBK) after their then three-year-old
son, Steve , was diagnosed with leukemia. They saw how sick children, especially
those from poor families, suffered from disease. The experience motivated the Perez
couple to do something for those kids that Christmas. The little act led them to start
PBK and helped spark hope among children with cancer and their families.

2
Today, you will learn of the story of Mephibosheth who suffered from
disease just like the children with cancer. But God still took care of him.

GOD’S WORD FOR MY WORLD

Saul’s son Jonathan had a son named Mephiboshet.

He was five years old when the news came that his
grandfather and father were dead.. his nurse picked
him up very quickly. As the nurse was in a hurry
to leave. Mephibosheth fell. His two legs were badly
hurt and he became crippled. He couldn’t walk anymore
and he had to stay under the care of his nurse until
he grow old.

Mephibosheth did not live a normal life. After

the accident he did not enjoy playing with
other children when he was young. He never
had a chance to run around and climb a tree. He felt very sad and almost lost hope.
But Mephibosheth prayed to God to help him in his bad condition.

One day, King David, the best friend of Jonathan, asked his servant ‘’ Is anyone
still left in Saul’s family?. I want to show kindness to that person for Jonathan’s sale!.

A servant named Ziba, answered. ‘’ There is still a son of Jonathan. His name is
Mephibosheth. He crippled in both feet.’’

Kind David asked Mephibosheth to be brought to the palace. Mephibosheth was a

surprised to hear of the good news. The King told him, ‘’ Don’t be afraid. Your father,
Jonathan, was my best friend. I want to show kindness to your family. I will give you
all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul. You will stay in the palace and
you will eat with me at my table.

Mephibosheth bowed to King David and said, ‘’ Thank you so much, your
Majesty, my king!’’

And Mphibosheth lived happily even if he was crippled in both feet. He always
ate at the table of King David for the rest of his life. God comforted Mephibosheth
and answered his prayer. God gave him great joy in his heart because he never lost
hope in God.
