FOREWORD
This Indian Standard (Part 9 ) ( Third Revision ) war ado ted by the Bureau of Indian Standard1
d'
on 26 December 1989, after the draft 5alizcd b the ethodr of Chemical Analysir of Ferrous
Metala Sectional Committee had been approved) by the Metallurgical Engineering Division
Council.
IS 228, which w u first published in 1952 and subsquently revised in 1959, covered the chemical
analysis of plaln carbon and low alloy steel:, along with ig iron and w t iron. Tht n a n d u d
f
was again r e v i d to make i t comprehensive in respect o ateel analysis and to exelude pie iron
and cart iron which are baing covered in separate standard. 14 parts have already been w e d
covering only chemical analysis of steel#.
This standard IS 228 ( Part 9 ) was publidmi in 1975. In this revision the part has been updated
and reproducibility of the method incorporated.
In reporting the result of a t a t made in accordance with thin standard, if the final value,
observed or calculated, ia to be rounded off, it shall be done in accordance with I8 2: 1960 'Rmlr
for rounding off numerical valun ( rcutrd)'.
