1. What are the difference between population and sample?

The main difference between a population and sample has to do with how observations
are assigned to the data set. A population includes all of the elements from a set of data. A
sample consists one or more observations drawn from the population.
Summarize: your sample is the group of individuals who participate in your study, and
your population is the broader group of people to whom your results will apply.
POPULATION set of all items and individuals of interest
Examples:
1. All registered nurses
2. Computers manufactured today
3. Sales receipt for July
4. The population of all the people at football match
5. Collection of all cars owned by faculty member of all departments at OMSC
SAMPLE subset of population
Examples:
1. All nurses selected at random for survey
2. A few computers selected for testing
3. Random receipt for audit
4. The 100 randomly chosen people at football match
5. Include the cars owned by faculty member of CAET department
2. What are the difference between descriptive and inferential statistics?
Descriptive statistics uses the data to provide descriptions of the population, either
through numerical calculations or graphs or tables. Descriptive statistics give information
that describes the data in some manner. Inferential statistics makes inferences and
predictions about a population based on a sample of data taken from the population in
question.
Descriptive - data can be summarized and represented in an accurate way using charts,
tables and graphs.
Examples:
1. Describing the weight of a product in a production line
2. Describing the time taken to process the application
3. National census
4. student report card
5. There are 15 males and 30 females in a classroom
6. The dollar value of total sales at sobey grocery store in clayton park each month
7. The number of years each employee worked for the company
8. The telephone area code of cities in the world

Inferential statistics
Examples:
1. Predicting effectiveness of a drug
2.Predicting relationship death and smoking habit
3. Estimate the numbers of student at Omsc
