Number of pages 2, plus appended pages from Freedom EVO service manual
Affected
instrument(s) Freedom EVO series (EVO, EVO clinical) with PosID-3
Subject PosID-3 changes on X drive
Situation
The PosID-3 X-drive has been changed to have the cable holder chain running completely
underneath the worktable. This improvement reduces the noise level of the PosID-3 without
having an impact on the reading performance of the PosID-3.
The slotted holes (A) in the PosID-3 base had to be repositioned, which required a change
on new EVO-2 chassis.

Install the PosID-3 onto the base See section 8.13.4, 8-165
Scope The upgrade of the PosID-3 base described in this section is applicable on
Freedom EVO-2 with serial no. lower or equal to the numbers in the table below:
PosID-3 Base The figure below shows the PosID-3 base versions before and after the upgrade.
Differences Die “old” version (A) has the cable holder chain in the back behind the X-shaft.
The “new” version (B) has the cable holder chain in front of the X-shaft.

Mount the self-adhesive plastic tape (PTFE) on the backside of the worktable
as shown in Fig. 5-17, 5-20 and make sure that you have the tape in a
distance (Y) of 5 mm ( 0.2 in.) from each edge of the worktable.
Cut the tape length (X) according to the following table:
Note: The “new” PosID-3 base will only be fixed with two screws in the front.
The two PosID-3 base fixing bolts in the back are removed (see step 4, 5-19)
8.13.7 X-Axis
Note: For Freedom EVO-2 instruments with appropriate serial numbers the X-
drive assembly cannot be just replaced. The PosID-3 first has to be upgraded with
the new base.
Refer to cross references above.
Note: The X-drive assembly includes the X-motor, the second encoder and the
home position sensor (fork-type light barrier).
