Subject LiHa change on Z-drive
Situation
The Z-drive of the LiHa has been updated to improve the reliability of the LiHa.
Detailed description of the change
The square-shaped shaft of the LiHa has been replaced by a star-shaped shaft. This change
does not affect the performance of the instrument and will be implemented on all Liquid
Handling arms manufactured or refurbished by T-CH as of January 1st, 2007.
Recommendation

not mandatory and does not require a special field corrective action. In case of z-pinion
abrasion, all z-gear pinions and shafts should be replaced.

Damage to the new pinion gear Z-axis.
If the pinion gear Z-axis is worn the drive shaft is usually in bad condition, too.
When paired with a used drive shaft the pinion gear Z-axis may wear off quickly.
Always replace both parts at the same time.
Removing To remove the drive shaft and the pinion gear Z-axis, proceed as follows:
A B
7 If necessary, carefully
disengage the pin (A) of the
spreading links from the slot
B (B) in the Z-rod, using a
screwdriver.
C The corresponding Z-guide (C)
can be moved more freely to
ease access to the screw of the
retainer.
A
1 Install the drive shaft and the pinion gear Z-axis in reverse order as described
for removal.
Pay attention to the following:
– Do not lubricate the parts
– Do not apply force when pushing in the Z-rod; turn the pinion gear Z-axis
in such a way that it engages properly in the Z-rod.

properly in the slot of the Z-rod.
