Repair instructions

Accessory drive belt removal/installation


Standard

BMW; 5 Touring (E61); 525 d; kW: 145

WARNING
Electric radiator fan can start even with the engine cut!
Rotating components can result in cuts and squashing!
Disconnect plug connection on electric radiator fan.

Labour time

Replace the generator accessory drive belt 0,75 h

Replace air conditioning compressor accessory drive belt 0,35 h

Note(s):
It is advisable not to reuse the accessory drive belt(s) after removal, but always replace them!

Installation tool
OE (11 0 330)

Remove
Air conditioning compressor accessory drive belt

Lift vehicle
Remove underride guard. (If present)
Remove the radiator fan.

Turn crankshaft in engine rotation direction and simultaneously pull off the accessory
drive belt.

Install
Place accessory drive belt onto air conditioning compressor.
Fit accessory drive belt onto crankshaft belt pulley using special tool. (1)

Remove
Air conditioning compressor accessory drive belt

Lift vehicle
Remove underride guard. (If present)
Remove the radiator fan.

Note the running direction of accessory drive belt.

Rotate tension pulley clockwise using a hexagon wrench . (2)


Remove accessory drive belt.
(see figure 4)

Install
Installation is carried out in reverse order of removal.

Alternator accessory drive belt

Tension the tensioning roller using a suitable tool. (2)


Remove accessory drive belt.
(see figure 5)

Install
Installation is carried out in reverse order of removal.

Start engine.
Check belt running.

Repair/maintenance work have to be carried out by a specialist who has completed his training in the motor vehicle trade (e.g. car mechanic, car electrician, car mechatronics specialist). Alternatively, the repair can also be performed by a trained
and experienced mechanic.
