SAFETY REGULATIONS
This machine has been designed with a number of built-in safety devices.
To avoid injury, it is highly important not to bypass or disable these safety devices.
If the equipment is used in a manner not specified by the manufacturer this can impair
the safety equipment on the machine.
Important
• Read the instructions thoroughly before use.
• The equipment must only be used by personnel who know about it and are trained
to use it. Personnel must also receive regular training on this equipment.
• Take care when handling the chemical agent used in the machine.
Read the details on the container or contact the manufacturer:
- if the agent comes into contact with the operator’s eyes or skin or if the vapors are
breathed in, etc.
- about storing the agent and disposing of empty containers.
• Take care, because the machine uses hot water and possibly steam.
• Installation and service work must be done by personnel trained in the use of
this machine.
• Never bypass the door switch of the machine.
• Leakage in the system, due to a worn door seal for example, must be dealt
with immediately.
• The electric power must be cut off before the machine cabinet is opened.
(The machine cabinet contains electrical components).
• Make sure that there is always detergent in the bottles. This is important both for the
operation of the machine and for keeping the washing chamber free from staining.
• The machine must be kept clean if it is to work properly.
• Do not wash down or hose down the machine with water.
• The machine must not be operated with cladding plates, roof and plinths removed.
Doing this puts at risk the safety and functioning of the machine.
• Spare parts may only be obtained from Getinge EDC.
Product liability
Any modification or incorrect use of the equipment without the approval of Getinge
Disinfection AB invalidates Getinge Disinfection AB’s product liability.

INTRODUCTION
Intended use of the machine
The Getinge 9000-Series Washer Disinfectors for washing, intermediate level of disinfection
and drying of Hospital; carts, containers and utensils (stainless steel wash basins, bowls and
similar items).
Attention symbols
Some of the warnings, instructions and advice in this manual are so important that we
use the following special symbols to draw attention to them. The symbols used are as
follows:
This symbol indicates a warning in the text of the manual. It warns of a hazard
that may lead to more or less severe injury and in certain cases mortal dan-
ger. It also highlights warnings to avoid damage to equipment.
This symbol highlights a warning in the text of the manual dealing with the
handling of components sensitive to ESD. The hazard that it warns about
may result in damage to hardware and/or circuit boards.
This symbol gives warning for remembering to bring the door lock key while
you are working inside the chamber. Operator must keep the key while inside
the chamber.

General description
The Getinge 9000-Series Washer Disinfectors are large capacity, floor loading jet spray
washers for mechanical washing, intermediate level, thermal disinfection and drying of
moisture and temperature stable Hospital case carts, sterilization containers, material
handling carts, stands and utensils.
Routine operation consists of loading the washer, closing the door and touching a
START button. The washer starts an operator-selected processing cycle and shuts off
when the cycle is complete. The operator then opens the unload end door and removes
the load.
The washer is fitted with a number of side spray nozzles arranged on spray arms (on
either side of the chamber) and as an option a docking mechanism in the floor for dock-
ing to goods carts fitted with spray arms. Detergent and rinse aid solutions are dispensed
automatically as a standard features.
A standard cycle consists of the following typical sequential phases, wash, rinse, drying.
The length of a cycle’s phase can be adjusted at the OP-panel.
The washer can be installed in a shallow pit or installed at level floor level. When instal-
led in a pit, the floor of the washer’s chamber is level with the room floor, which allows
the direct loading and unloading of carts. When the washer is installed at floor level, the
floor of the chamber is higher than the room floor. Ramps are then provided as standard
equipment to facilitate loading and unloading.
Washer Options and selections
The 9000-Series washer may be equipped with the following options.
Floor Mount or Pit Mount
A floor mounted washer requires the installation of ramps to provide access to the
washer. The interior floor of a pit mounted washer is level with the finished floor of the
facility.
Horizontal or Inclined Sliding Door
As standard, the door is moving horizontal straight sideways. The inclined sliding door
is needed if the unit is pit mounted, in a pit that is not wide enough, the door must move
slightly upwards to allow it to pass the edge of the pit.
The sliding door slides towards the service area.
Right Side or Left Side Service Area
Provide access to components such as plumbing, valves, pumps, tanks, electrical cabinet,
etc. The location of service area on your washer can be located left or right hand.
Flow control
As standard two detergent dosing pumps for process chemicals are supplied. This allows
chemical disinfection of heat-sensitive items. All detergent dosing pumps can be equipped
with flow control.
Water Saving Tank
One water saving tank can be installed in the service area.
Trolley Tilt
The Chamber floor can be tilted in the drying phase for goods drip off and faster drying.
Guide rails (option)
Protection for sideflushing nozzels.
Waste water cooling
Cooling system to control the temperature of the waste water that is drained out from the
machine.
Purified water valve
The machine can be fitted with a extra valve for purified water.

Process control
The machine has a PACS 3500 control system to control and monitor the process.
The control system is shipped with various standard programs
(see the separate program sheet). The operator chooses the required program via menu
on the operator panel. Contact the manufacturer for customised programs.
Programming may only be done by authorized personnel.
Door operation
The machine is fitted with two doors. Two doors give an “airlock” function between the
soiled and clean sides of the machine. The doors are horizontal sliding doors (as standard).
Control panel
The doors are motorized. As a safety measure, the operator must hold down the open
c or close button W during the entire opening or closing sequence. If the button is
released during the sequence, the door stops immediately (the door on the clean side can
be opened by pressing the button once). The doors have efficient anti-crush protection.
The machines with double doors have a system of interlocks to ensure that only one door
can be opened at a time. This means that the clean-side door must be closed and locked by

Dosing system
In standard form, the machine has two dosing systems. The dosing amount can be set
individually for each program.
The machine cannot be started if detergent level is to low in one of the detergent holders.
If the detergent bottle is empty, no ready-to-start signal is given. If, with the machine in
this mode, the start button is pressed, the display shows ”DET X LOW LEVEL”(X=

Positioning the items
Note:
All vessels must be carefully emptied before being loaded in the machine.
• Use inserts and special inserts efficiently and only for the goods and utensils to be washed.
• Ensure that the water jets reach all surfaces of the goods. Surfaces that are covered
in some way will not be perfectly clean.
• Do not block the side flushing nozzels.
• Make sure that the strainers in the machine are clean and that the water can flow
through these. It is important to clean and check the strainers regularly.
• Empty all vessels to be washed before positioning them in the machine.
• Placer sharp and pointed utensils so that they can not cause injuries when loading
and unloading.
• Make sure that utensils do not lie on top of each other and in a manner that pre-
vents the water from reaching all surfaces.
• Place vessels with opening facing the sideflush nozzles. It must be possible for the
water to flow freely in and out of the vessels.
• Goods with domed bases are positioned at an incline so that water does not collect
on the domed surface.
• The goods must be distributed evenly over the surface.
Handling detergent
Empty out all residues of acids, especially hydrochloric acid, solvents and
chloride based solvents from the vessel before it is placed in the machine.
• Pre-treatment with, e.g. detergent or disinfectant and some types of dirt can cause
increased lather. The lather can affect the washing and disinfection result.
• Follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully with regard to detergent and
special products. In order to avoid damage to material and chemical reactions
(e.g. oxy-hydrogen gas) the detergent must only be used for purposes prescribed by
the manufacturer.
• Handle liquid agents (cleaning, rinse, disinfection and neutralizing agents) with
care. These agents usually consists of acids or lye. Do not add organic solvents
as this can bring about an explosion risk. Wear protective glasses and protective
gloves when handling agents. Always follow the manufacturer’s safety instructions
<Doc_USR><Doc_502895700s><Rel_B><Lang_GB>
Page 22 of 32
Daily inspection
• Check that no objects have fallen down into the bottom of the washing chamber.
Loose objects may cause blockages and seriously reduce the performance of the
washer disinfector.
• Check that the side spray nozzles can move freely. Check that the holes in the noz-
zles not are blocked. Blocked nozzles may adversely affect the cleaning result.
• If the nozzles need cleaning, remove and clean them if neccesary. The nozzle tube
can then be lifted off and washed clean. Check that the side spray nozzles can move
freely when re-installed.
• Vaccum clean the filters in the bottom of the washing chamber. A dirty fine filter
may prevent water from circulating.
• Open the detergent containers and check that they contain detergent/rinse-aid.
• Check the accessories of the machine visually with regard to their intended use and
function. For example, worn and missing parts that might affect the performance of
the machine.
• Check the cleaning instructions of the goods manufacturer.
• To achieve the intended level of performance and safety, distribute the load evenly
over the washing surface.
• Check the cleaning result visually when the process is complete.
• The side spray nozzles journal must be checked daily and replaced every five years.

exchangers, etc., which cannot be weighed or divided up in the same way as other frac-
tions.
Distribution
The machines are packed on wooden pallets and clad with wood and Masonite. Users
must make sure that the packaging material is sorted and recycled.
Use
The dishwasher affects the environment during its entire life cycle. Getinge
Disinfection’s assessment is that the supply of electric power and water are the two
largest environmental loads. Based on a life of ten years and 3000 processes per year, the
machine uses 22 500 kWh of electricity and 6 000 m³ of water. 6 000 litres of detergent
are released into the sewerage system. To reduce the environmental impact the user may
use green electric power.

End-of-life treatment
Getinge 9000-Series washer-disinfectors are made largely of stainless steel, glass och
other recyclable metals. When the machine is scrapped the materials should be recycled.
Cable/wiring and printed circuit boards contain environmentally hazardous substances
such as lead, cadmium, PVC and brominated flame retardants, and must be recycled as
electronic scrap. Plastics and rubber must be sorted separately.

Detergents
The machine has been tested with Getinge detergents. We recommend to use Getinge
detergent or equivalent detergent from a reputable manufacturer.
The recommendation of chemical agents does not mean that the manufacturer of the
machine bears responsibility for the effects of these agents on the goods. Changes to
composition, conditions, etc. that the manufacturer has not been informed of can affect
the cleaning quality of the washing result.

Water quality - washer disinfectors
The quality of the water used in all stages of cleaning is important for good results.
Hardness High hardness will cause lime scale deposits in the washer disinfector,
leading to poor cleaning results.
Ionic contaminants High concentrations of ions can cause corrosion and pitting of stainless
steel. Heavy metals such as iron, manganese or copper cause instruments
to tarnish.
Microbial contaminants The water used should not increase the biological load on the equipment
that is being treated against micro-organisms and their residual products
which may cause fever-like symptoms when they get into the human body.
Sanitary chemicals High concentrations of and high exposure to sanitary chemicals may cause
corrosion and pitting on stainless steel.
Getinge Disinfection AB therefore recommends that water used in the pre-rinsing, wash-
ing and final rinsing phases should be of drinkable quality in accordance with the guide-
lines. Detailed information about acceptable water quality can be found in “Guidelines
for Drinking Water Quality 3rd Edition” published by WHO.

Further advice should also be obtained from the manufacturers of chemical and medical
equipment.
Where local standards are stricter that Getinge Disinfection AB’s recommendations, they
should be followed. Note that it is the customer’s responsibility to supply the washer
disinfector with suitable water.
