TOP 10 LEADING CAUSES OF DEATH (GLOBAL)

The possible causes of death can be classified into three groups: communicable
noncommunicable, and injuries. In accordance with the data acquired and analyzed by World Health
Organization (WHO), 7 out of the 10 leading causes of deaths in the year 2019 falls under the category
of noncommunicable diseases; these 7 diseases accounts for 74% of deaths in the said year.

The leading cause of death is the ischaemic heart disease wherein it is accountable for the 16%
of the world’s total deaths. For the 2nd and 3rd leading causes of death, stroke and chronic obstructive
pulmonary disease are said to be reasons behind the 11% and 16% of deaths, respectively. Moreover,
lower respiratory infections are listed as the most fatal communicable diseases as they are placed on 4th
leading cause of death. For the 5th leading cause of death, neonatal conditions secured the place as they
have already made an impact to approximately 2 million newborns and young children in the year 2019.
It is evident that the number of casualties from noncommunicable diseases is continuously rising;
trachea, bronchus, and lung cancers have affected at least 1.2 million to 1.8 million which is why they
are ranked 6th among the leading causes of death. Conditions in different forms of dementia like
Alzheimer’s disease ranked as the 7th leading causes of death whereas women are affected
disproportionally with 65% of deaths from the disease are contributed by women. Furthermore,
diarrhoeal diseases accounts for the total of 1.5 million of deaths in 2019; while Diabetes has made its
