might

In this lesson, we see the modal verb "might" in the sentence "my younger cousin might like one." It means
the younger cousin will probably like one, but he's not sure. In this sentence, "might" shows possibility about
the future. It's like saying, "Maybe he will like it," but we take out "will" and put in "might" because we're not
sure. "Might" always comes before the verb, but the verb tense can change when we add "might." Let's take
a look:

本课中,我们在“my younger cousin might like one (我的表弟可能会喜欢)”这句话中看到了情态动词“might (可

能)”,意思是表弟或许可能会喜欢,但说话人不确定。在这句话中,“might”表示未来的可能性。就像说“Maybe
he will like it (也许他会喜欢)”,但我们去掉“will”,加上“might”,因为我们不确定。“might”总是在动词之前
使用,但是当我们添加“might”时,动词时态会发生变化。让我们来看一下:

Future tense:

将来时

She will do that. -> She might do that.

她将做那件事。-> 她可能会做那件事。

Present tense:

现在时

She is doing that. -> She might be doing that.

她正在做那件事。-> 她可能在做那件事。

Past tense:

过去时

She did that. -> She might have done that.

她已经做了那件事。-> 她可能已经做了那件事。

Negative:

否定式

She will not do that. -> She might not do that.

她不会做那件事。-> 她可能不会做那件事。

It's often used in conditionals:

might常用于条件句中:

If I'm still hungry after dinner, I might eat some dessert.

如果晚饭后我还是饿,我可能会吃点甜品。

1. We might go see a movie this weekend.

我们这周末可能会去看电影。

2. They might be taking the bus, but I'm not sure.

他们可能正在坐公交车,但我不确定。

3. She might not like fish, so I ordered chicken for her.
