Reflection: If you were the narrator, would you go home or stay in the Christian town to continue
your studies?

If I was the narrator, I would choose to endure the difficulties of staying in the
Christian town of Santa Barbara and continue my studies. This is for the reason that I
would not like any other person to take the fall for me and sacrifice their whole life
separated from the community. Although Ita’s decision to send me away did not consider
what I would have thought or felt, this decision of his was done selflessly for the
betterment of the community. Moreover, Ita knew that staying behind and remaining
ignorant like all the others in the community would bring no assistance to the conflicts
arising in our neighboring communities that will surely reach ours. The chance of us being
able to fight back against the murderous and land-grabbing Christians may only be a
flicker of light, but we must do what we can no matter how slim are chances, and no
matter how big the sacrifices we need to make.
