What is home? Where do I belong?

Home is a vague representation of a place of comfort, where we feel secure and where we can
interact freely with other social beings. Your “home” can be everywhere, and in the concept of Marxism, a
home is a place where everything is leveled, and there is an equitable flow of opportunities to everyone.
Every other decade, the home context varies from one person to the other, depending on their culture and
social status. In the advent of post-World War II, the idea of “home” became a material privilege due to the
issues, complications, and confusion that arose after the wreck that the war had brought in the government
and other land-related agencies.

In my time - home became not a complex concept to think and choose (whether a place or a
person). Still, as time progresses, our point of view widens as we absorb different notions coming from
academic papers and other human matters. We change our home concept depending on our social,
political, cultural, environmental, and psychological preferences. These diverse preferences learn to
change and adapt depending on the situation I am in. There are different levels of representations of
“home” - my first level of the home as a youth is my place of dwelling, where I live with my parents and
siblings, where I enjoy soulful talks, food, and possibly healthy discussions. My “home” outside of the four
corners of my dwelling is where my friends and hobbies are, where I enjoy, grow, and live the concept of
freedom. The higher level of the home is where I become socio-politically conscious, where I become
immersed in the nation's current affairs as to how the feeling of patriotism and nationalism tells me to.
Nationalism is where I put first the interest of the greater good of the Filipino, where I judge not by material
merit but of good moral intuition - while Patriotism is where I am ready to give my due for the nation's
welfare. The beauty in patriotism and nationalism is where I imagine and create an ideal place to live. I
believe that everyone can enjoy the full possibilities of growth and development, where everyone can strive
to attain their full potential. This socio-political utopia is hardly attainable in our current age.

Given the different economic and political stands of the different driving nations in the world (the big
5), it is hard to judge which is better and not. Still, it is hard to study whether which one is much more
favorable for us. Although we exist in an independent country fueled with democracy, we cannot deny that
the concept of freedom given to us is more of a controlled concept than the predetermined idea of
democracy provides - absolute freedom. Our idea of home is where the impoverished population has the
chance to live a better life, where “corruption” is limited to a few silver coins, and social and academic
attainments do not equate to societal divisions, and where everyone is given equal access to opportunities
without deep reservation and discrimination.
