ABSTRACT

The descriptive research study titled “ THE INFLUENCE OF FOOD INTAKE

ON THE MENTAL HEALTH OF GRADE 11 STUDENTS OF REGIONAL
SCIENCE HIGH SCHOOL-IX”, that will help assess whether food intake affects the
mental health of the grade 11 students of RSHS-IX. The main purpose of the study is to
assess the students’ mental wellbeing from the food they eat. This study will help students
to be aware on that food intake could really affect their mental health. The study is solely
limited to the assessment on the impacts of amount of food intake among grade 11
students of Regional Science High School-IX. And the study focused on the 30
respondents of Regional Science High School. The review of related literature of the
study focused on the possible effects of not getting the right nutrition from the food a
person eats. The study utilized grounded theory as its research design, and used a non-
probability sampling specifically voluntary sampling. It utilized questionnaires to collect
data and information and interview questions to further gather important facts about the
topic of the study. The respondents of the study were the senior high school students from
the Regional Science High School –IX. The students selected were from Grade 11. There
were only 30 students which were chosen voluntarily to fully represent the sample space
intended for the study. The researcher developed a self-centered questionnaire in order to
collect the necessary data in order to answer the research problems of this study. The
questionnaire has been administered to the 30 respondents through distribution of
questionnaires with the course of one day; the data collected was then analyzed to be
presented on the results and discussion of the paper. The data collected was then
interpreted using tables and graph. Based on the data gathered, it can be concluded that
food intake affects and influences the overall mental health of students, specifically, the
grade 11 students of RSHS-IX. It is recommended that the next researcher would focus
on the other respondents, and go deeper in formulating questions.
