OnePlus

Product mix:
OnePlus is a mobile brand first introduced by former Oppo’s vice-presidents Carl Pei
and Pete Lau in December 2013. The firm is one of the three subsidiaries of BKK
Electronics, the old two being Oppo and Vivo. In one of his statements CEO, Pete Lau
had stated that the brand aimed to design high-end smartphones with flagship hardware
that didn't cost premium — hence came to the tagline “Never Settle”.

The vision was to make OnePlus phones the devices that ticked off every box Android
fans demanded, great design, heavy specs, the fastest and high-end software, and an
affordable price. The dream turned into a reality in 2014 with the birth of the OnePlus
One.

Smartphones:
OnePlus one

The OnePlus “One” was not much different from other Android phones of its time. still
and all, it had many kinds of stuff going for it that set it apart. The thing that sets this
smartphone apart from different brands was the software, which was, the Android-
based Cyanogen OS, which divided off from the popular custom ROM known as
Cyanogen. Cyanogen OS was slim and developer-friendly, making it appealing to both
Android hobbyists as well as general users who value a bloat-free experience. (Refer to
exhibit-1 for Oneplus one the OG)

OnePlus Two

By the end of 2014, OnePlus found itself with a challenge it had gotten too big too
fleetly. Now, this is a problem that maximum companies would love to have, no doubt,
but it was still a problem. It was likely at least partly why the OnePlus 2, launched in July
2015, is generally regarded as the weakest of all the OnePlus phones. As one would
anticipate, the OnePlus 2 came with the usual upgrades the newest Snapdragon 800-
series processor, a large battery, a better display, Advanced-grade cameras, a
fingerprint detector, additional speakers, etc. even so, the new model removed NFC
support and did not come with increased RAM or additional internal storage.

OnePlus X

In the October of 2015, rumours were ramping up that OnePlus was going to release
the OnePlus 3 smartphone. Co-founder Carl Pei de-emphasized the rumour by telling
that there would be only one flagship phone from OnePlus in the year 2015.
Enter the OnePlus X, which, true to Carl Pei's word, is unquestionably not a flagship
phone. Released at the end of October 2015, the X was the first product from the
company which was not a premium smartphone. (Refer to exhibit-2 for Oneplus X the
experiment)

OnePlus 3

OnePlus 3, the company's first aggregate reanalyzing of how a OnePlus smartphone

feels, looks, and functions. Taking some design cues from the incredibly popular HTC
One M7 and One M8 from a few years prior, the OnePlus 3 had an elegant-looking
metal chassis, some sexy rounded corners, huge bumps in internal specs, and, perhaps
best of all, no invite system gabble to hold back buyers from getting it OnePlus also
used the OnePlus 3 to amend some of its earlier misjudgments. It brought back NFC
support and fixed up compatibility issues that the OnePlus 2 attended with its USB-C
port. It also enhanced the fingerprint detector, which was a soft spot for users with the
OnePlus 2. (Refer to exhibit-3 for Oneplus 3 the flagship killer)

OnePlus 3T

The OnePlus 3 was launched in the mid of June 2016. Nearly five months later, in
November, the company launched a new smartphone known as the OnePlus 3T. This
was the first time the company had ever unleashed two flagship smartphones in one
year. The OnePlus 3T looked next to exactly like the OnePlus 3 but featured countable
upgrades that made it overall a better device. The processor went for an upgrade to
Snapdragon 821 and the battery was also upgraded by 400mAh capacity more than the
one in the previous model i.e., OnePlus 3. The 3T also added a more high-end variant
with 128 GB of internal storage and an advanced selfie camera. Overall, nonetheless,
the OnePlus 3T was just a simple tweaking of the OnePlus 3.

OnePlus 5

After the launch of the OnePlus 3, people naturally assumed that the OnePlus 4 will be
launched in the year 2017. But OnePlus surprised everyone again by directly jumping to
the number four and going straight to the number five with the OnePlus 5.

Though the company never gave a reason for skipping the OnePlus 4, it most likely had
to do with tetraphobia, a considerably conventional superstition in East Asian culture.

OnePlus 5T

From the OnePlus One in 2014 to the OnePlus 5 in 2017, all the OnePlus phones
partook a similar design. Sure, the Sandstone back faded with the OnePlus 3 and the
OnePlus 5 gave us a twin rear camera style, but the overall idea of a minimalist design
with a physical home button/ fingerprint detector on the anterior stayed the same.
Not so with the OnePlus 5T. For the first time, the front of the device turned all screens
and the fingerprint detector moved to the rear.

OnePlus 6

The notch was a considerably controversial design element. With rumours ramping up
for the launch of the OnePlus 6 in early 2018, it was assumed that it would also feature
a notched camera display. And then, their interests turned into reality when co-founder
Carl Pei gave an exclusive first- look at what the notch on the OnePlus 6 looked like.
Luckily for OnePlus, the foremost notch reaction did not hurt it too much, as the
OnePlus 6 as well- took by fans and critics. The device retailed so well that OnePlus
broke its usual silence on company profit to declare that it retailed over a million units of
the OnePlus 6 in just one month. That is an astounding achievement for just over four
years of the company's existence.

OnePlus 6T

OnePlus 6T marks the turning point for this brand. It's when the company ultimately
stepped out of its foremost incarnation as an online-only niche OEM to a global
company that could menace the likes of Samsung, Huawei, and more. Even if you
ignore that, the OnePlus 6T was suchlike an amazing device. The move to a hardly-
there waterdrop notch was welcomed by the fans and the critics, and the improvements
to the cameras, display and internal specs were all good moves including the debut of
the in-display fingerprint detector. The only thing that was regrettable about the 6T is
that it marks the end of the headphone jack from the phone. (Refer to exhibit-4 for
more display info of Oneplus 6T)

OnePlus 7& 7 pro

For the first time in the history of OnePlus, it launched two different versions as the
OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 7 Pro. The two significant upgrades the OnePlus 7 saw as
compared to the OnePlus 6T was in the processor and cameras. The processor got an
upgrade to the Snapdragon 855 and the cameras got bumped from 2018 detectors to
2019 detectors, including a 48MP main. The OnePlus 7 Pro introduced countable firsts
to not only OnePlus phones but the entire smartphone market in general. It was the first
commercially released phone to bear UFS3.0 storage speeds and the first with a 90Hz
refresh rate on an OLED display. It was the first phone ever to come with a pop-up
selfie camera.

OnePlus 7T& 7T pro

The OnePlus 7T has a wholly unique design as well as enhanced internals as

compared to the previous model OnePlus 7. For example, it brings over the triplex-lens
back camera system of the OnePlus 7 Pro but in a brand new (and soon abandoned)
circular module. It keeps the waterdrop notch of the OnePlus 7, but makes the screen
slightly thinner and slightly towering, kind of like the OnePlus 7 Pro's all-screen display.
the 7T Pro is just a 7 Pro with a slightly bigger battery and a slightly upgraded
processor. Apart from the above mentioned minor changes, the phones are identical.

OnePlus 8& 8 pro

The OnePlus 8 looks different from the OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7 Pro. It has the
awaited upgrades in specs, including the 5G Snapdragon 865 processor.
Notwithstanding, it also has countable downgrades, most notably a weaker camera
array as well as a display cutout rather than a waterdrop notch. OnePlus 8 Pro is the
first OnePlus smartphone that provides a wireless charging feature. OnePlus 8 pro also
earned an IP68 rating, a thing fans demanded for years. It also enhanced the battery
charging speed with an improved watt charger. (Refer to exhibit-5 for comparison of
battery charging speed of OnePlus 8 and 8 pro)

OnePlus Nord

The Nord looks a lot like the OnePlus 8 flagships, it features a slower processor i.e.,
Snapdragon 765G. This enables it to connect to 5G networks and still produces a
snappy software experience, but it’s not nearly as strong as the Snapdragon 865. The
decrease in processing power, allowed OnePlus Nord to keep the entry price fairly low.

OnePlus 8T

The OnePlus 8T has quite a different design when compared to the OnePlus 8. The
back camera module gets a unique look with a rounded rectangle setup. The front of the
phone, nonetheless, looks matching to the OnePlus 8. The biggest upgrade with the
OnePlus 8T, nonetheless, is the introduction of Warp Charge 65. As the name
suggests, it offers 65 Watt wired charging speeds. This is twice as quick as any prior
OnePlus phone and allows you to charge the 8T from zero to full in just under 40
minutes.

OnePlus Nord N10& N100

Not long once OnePlus launched the OnePlus 8T, the corporate quietly launched 2
brand new smartphones the OnePlus Nord N10 and Nord N100. Both devices are
forcibly in the budget section and represent a multitude of “firsts” for the company. Both
the device has a fairly weak processor i.e., Snapdragon 690 for the Nord N10 and the
Snapdragon 460 for the N100. These are the minimum-ranking processors in any
OnePlus phone to date. Both phones also feature microSD card slots, headphone jacks,
and physical fingerprint detectors on the back.

OnePlus 9

The OnePlus 9 is considered the company’s greatest attempt when it comes to this
balancing all features and prices. It features the ultimate-and- utmost processor in the
Snapdragon 888. It has a strong camera system, great specs, and a price that is fairly
good for what you get. It also, for the first time, offers wireless charging, heretofore
unseen on non-Pro position devices from the brand. Of course, it still isn't a pro-level
phone. It lacks in getting an IP rating, so it’s not water-proof and the telephoto lens was
also removed.

OnePlus 9 pro

OnePlus partnered with renowned camera company Hasselblad for the release of the
OnePlus 9 series. The alliance — and the camera software that’s the fruit of that
alliance — is something much all OnePlus is centred on with the OnePlus 9 Pro. Truth
be told, the 9 Pro is far and out the best smartphone camera OnePlus has ever
attained. Ultimately, the company can confidently stand among the greats in the
photography game, namely Samsung, Google, and Apple. (1)
