Soil must be protected because it is so diverse and lets life grow.

The key to help

climate change is to help your soil. Carbon dioxide has risen 40% in the past few years.

The concentration of carbon dioxide is only half because the plants are transferring it

back to oxygen. Emissions will continue to rise. The cycle of carbon dioxide into oxygen

is being compromised because we are killing plants.

There is more carbon in soil than in the atmosphere. The amount of carbon in

soil is like a bank. They come in and then come out. However when it leaves the soil,

we are losing the nutrients we need. Carbon sequestration helps the soil become

malleable which allows it to support diverse habitats. It makes life possible when the soil

is healthy and rich in carbon.

Soils are suffering because of overgrazing, erosion, and deforestation. Soil

degradation is bad because it diminishes plant productivity. It releases more carbon into

the air if there is more degradation.

Carbon gets built up because of permafrost. However with global warming it

helps permafrost melt which releases more carbon in the air which will continue this

cycle even more. However there is a solution; climate-smart land practices. Manage

your land in a smart way by treating soil right. If we get deep rooted plants that can help.

As well as fertilizing the ground can help the soil as well.

It can offset a third of carbon emissions. Even if that doesn’t help, we are still

helping the soil become stronger. The stronger the soil the more plants and foods we

can grow from it. We would be able to support future generations through food security.
