Direction: Answer the following items below.

1. Write word chemical equations for the following reactions. Include symbols for
physical states when indicated.

a. Solid calcium reacts with solid sulfur to produce solid calcium sulfide.

Ca(s) + S(s)  CaS(s)

b. Hydrogen gas reacts with fluorine gas to produce hydrogen fluoride gas.

H(g) + F(g)  HF(g)

c. Solid aluminum metal reacts with aqueous zinc chloride to produce solid zinc
metal and aqueous aluminum chloride.

Al(s) + ZCl2(aq)  Z(s) + AlCl3(aq)

2. Translate the following chemical equations into sentences:

a. 3KOH(aq) + H3PO4(aq)  K3PO4(aq) + 3H2O(l)

3 moles of aqueous potassium hydroxide plus 1 mole of aqueous phosphoric
acid yields to 1 mole of aqueous potassium phosphate and 3 moles of liquid
water.

b. FeS(s) + HCl(aq) FeCl2(s) + H2S(g)

1 mole of solid iron sulfide plus 1 mole of aqueous hydrochloric acid yields to
1 mole of solid ferrous chloride and gas hydrogen sulfide.

3. Hydrazine, N2H4, is used as rocket fuel. Hydrazine reacts violently with oxygen
to produce gaseous nitrogen and water. Write the skeletal equation for this.

N2H4 + O2  N(g) + H2O
