Exercises:

A. Write the chemical equations for each of the following chemical reactions:

1) When dissolved beryllium chloride reacts with dissolved silver nitrate in water, aqueous beryllium nitrate
and silver chloride powder are made.
BeCl2 (aq) + AgNO3 (aq) → Be(NO3)2 (aq) + AgCl (s)
2) When isopropanol (C3H8O) burns in oxygen, carbon dioxide, water are produced.
C3H8O + O2 → CO2 + H2O
3) When dissolved sodium hydroxide reacts with sulfuric acid, aqueous sodium sulfate, water, and heat
are formed.
NaOH (aq) + H2SO4 → Na2SO4 (aq) + H2O +
4) When fluorine gas is put into contact with calcium metal at high temperatures, calcium fluoride powder
is created in an exothermic reaction.
F2 (g) + Ca → CaF2
5) When sodium metal reacts with iron (II) chloride, iron metal and sodium chloride are formed.
Na + FeCl2 → Fe + NaCl

B. Write the word equations for each of the following chemical reactions:

1) Solid sodium oxide is added to water at room temperature and forms sodium hydroxide.
Solid sodium oxide + water → sodium hydroxide
2) Solid aluminum metal reacts with aqueous zinc chloride to produce solid zinc metal and aqueous
aluminum chloride.
Solid aluminum metal + aqueous zinc chloride → solid zinc metal + aqueous aluminum chloride
3) Zinc reacts with aqueous hydrochloric acid to produce a solution of zinc chloride and hydrogen gas.
Zinc + aqueous hydrochloric acid → zinc chloride + hydrogen gas
4) Solid iron (III) oxide and carbon monoxide produce solid iron and carbon dioxide gas.
Solid iron (III) oxide + carbon monoxide → solid iron + carbon dioxide gas

C. Describe the chemical reaction that occurs in the following chemical equations.

1) SnO2 + H2 → H2O + Sn
