TRANSMISSION COMPANY OF NIGERIA

The transmission sector now called Transmission Company of

Nigeria (TCN) is responsible for transmitting electricity from the

generating stations to the distributing stations for consumer’s use.

.The objectives of the transmission company is to build a

transmission grid that can efficiently evacuate all generated

power, and also to reduce transmission loss to atleast 5%

TRANSMISSION GRID

A transmission grid is an interconnected network for delivering

electric current from producers (generating stations) to

consumers. It consists of conductors carried on steel towers in

between transmission stations which convey generated power

from power stations to major load centers

The transmission station transmits power to longer distances

(across states), at the transmission stations, the power will be

stepped down to voltages (from 330kv to 132kv) .As it reaches the

distribution stations, it will further be stepped down

TRANSMISSION COMPANY ENUGU -SUB REGION
.The transmission substation is supplied by two 330kv incoming

lines (double circuit) from Benin substation through Onitsha.

There is the 330kv and 132kv switchyard. Current at 330kv

enters the 330kv switch yard where it is stepped down to 132kv
via two 150MVA step-down Auto Transformers. It is then passed
into the 132kv switchyard where it is further stepped down from
132kv to 33kv via four step-down transformers,(four 60MVA
step-down transformers)
TRANSFORMER

A transformer is a static device that changes an AC electrical power at

one voltage level into AC electrical power at another voltage level
through the action of magnetic field without a change in frequency.
The operation of a transformer is based on the principle of mutual
inductance. A transformer usually consists of two coils of wire wound
on a core; the primary coil is the input coil while thesecondary coil is
the output coil. A changing magnetic field, thus changing voltage in the
secondary circuit, and this effect is called mutual induction

Transformer can be either a step-up or step-down transformer. If the

outputvoltage of the transformer is greater than the input voltage, it is
then a step-uptransformer. If the output voltage of the transformer is
less than the input voltage, it is a step-down transformer
