About the Training program

This course is designed and offered by SVNIT based on the many requests received from the
Industry /Engineers / Consultants / Student Interns to gain practical knowledge on Road Safety
Audit, different aspects of road engineering and road safety. Further, considering the recent circular
issued by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) vide circular no.
NHAI/RSC/2012/Empanelment of Road Safety call dated 03/10/2019 aimed at enhancing the skill
levels of practicing engineers, Faculty of Civil Engineering / Transportation Engineering and also
to enhance the knowledge of the students graduating from Masters (Transportation / Highway
Engineering) / Bachelors degree program in Civil Engineering stream. This 15 day course is
structured to cover during the initial phase fundamentals of Traffic Engineering and safety
followed by aspects/safety issues related to Pavement Engineering, Bridge and Geotechnical
Engineering. Thereafter, detailed focus on Road Safety Audit (RSA) including Pavement and
traffic management through 4 days of exposure to the conduct of Practical RSA including report
preparation.

These would cover techniques to be employed for various types of road facilities like two- lane
roads, Multilane Highways, Urban Roads, Expressways, Hill Roads and associated intersections.
Various 15-day programs were successfully conducted during the last and current year at SVNIT
and thus a pool of road safety auditors were created. These certified road safety auditors were
successful in garnering more than 5,000 Kms of RSA work from the National Highways Authority
of India (NHAI), Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and other states Public
Works Departments (PWD) primarily due to the above certification program.

The objective of the Programme

The 15 days Training Program on “ROAD SAFETY AUDIT AND ITS RELATED ASPECTS" Will
provides a forum for researchers working in the field of Transportation Engineering from all corners
of the globe to understand the needs and advancement of Road Safety Audits. Participants of this
training programme will have a detailed idea of RSA at the end of the
course. Later on, He/She will ensure that safety provision is as per the relevant codes and make it
strictly followed at the site during all stages of pavement. He/she shall be overall responsible for
Road safety aspects and quality assurance. It is also necessary for researchers, faculties, and
engineers to come together every year in a relaxed environment to learn and discuss new ideas and
developments in the area of Transportation Engineering, especially in the field of road safety audits.
In addition, it is good opportunity for students and engineers to explore their careers.
