Let's listen to the opinions of female students from the Poltekkes Malang campus who
represent millennials about the issue that Indonesian women are not able to lead the
Indonesian state.
Time and place are welcome
Thank you for the opportunity that has been given to me, which I respect the speakers
and especially the madamBintang Puspayoga as Minister of Women's Empowerment and
Child Protection (PPPA), as well as the happy participants at this time.
Introducing my name is Selvia, representative of the aspirations of female millennials.
I feel that every time I hear or read about people's actions against state leaders "must
be men", I always feel deja vu. This action reminded me of the action against women leaders
that had emerged earlier, to be precise in the early 2000s. The pattern is almost similar,
using religious sentiments in carrying out its rejection. Cite letters from the scriptures to
support his argument.
Indonesia which has status as a developing country always continuously make efforts of
development which is directed for the prosperity of society. In the development process, women
have an indispensable role with the process, especially in terms of acculturation with the social
environment and the small community. Women should have the same potential as men to
contribute to the community development. Either in the economic, socio-cultural and political fields
of government in the sphere of democracy.
Women taking part in politics and entering the public sphere to become a leader at
this time are still considered taboo, violating nature and contrary to religious law. The most
difficult thing right now is to convince the public that women have EQUAL rights with men
in all fields -- including politics.
In my opinion, if gender equality can be created, one of them is by having equal access
or opportunities between women and men in leadership where women are able to give voice
and can participate in the development of the country better.
The dominance in public sphere of politics is always synonymous with the role of men.
They formulate the rules of the game and they also define the standard of evaluation in the
field of the political area (Soekanto, 1999: 69). The dominance of men in the world of politics
as well as in institutions has made women's jealousy and opposition to uneven models and
lifestyles. Today more than 95 percent of countries that uphold democracy lead to women's
empowerment. Namely: right to vote and right to stand for elections. In this theory, the right
to joint for election, to become a candidate and to vote, is based on voting rights, right to
vote. However, in reality women's suffrage is restricted because basically only men's
candidates have the right to vote
The Government has issued a regulation on gender equality as written in the 1945
Constitution as one concrete action in support of women's empowerment. Article 28 I (2) of
the 1945 Constitution states that, "Every person shall have the right to be free from
discriminatory treatment on any basis and entitled to protection against discriminatory
treatment" and strengthened through ratification or process of the adoption of the Convention
on the Elimination of All Forms and Attitudes of Discrimination Against Women by
CEDAW (Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women)
into Law NO.7 years 1984. And also very necessary for the supervision and special rules to
be used as a tool of control of treatment to woman
Many people who have served as heads of state in Indonesia include Soekarno,
Suharto, Gusdur, and even BJ. Habibi and the last one was one of the first Indonesian
women to become president, namely Megawati and they all have kept a lot of different
leadership characters until each of them reached the peak of success during their tenure.
There are even some women who have the potential and competence to become leaders
in various fields
The first
1. Sri Mulyani
Minister of FinanceSri Mulyani Indrawati considered to have a very crucial role in
economic growth in Indonesia

2. Susi Pudjiastuti
He isSusi Pudjiastuti, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of Indonesia. With
his courage in a policy of the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries to sink illegal fishing
vessels in Indonesian waters

The third
3. Tri Risma Harini,
Risma is the first woman to be elected asMayor of Surabayathroughout history. Risma
is also listed as the first woman to be directly elected as mayor through regional head
elections throughout the history of Indonesian democracy in Indonesiareform eraand is the
first female regional head in Indonesia to be repeatedly included in the list of the world's best
leaders and currently also serves asMinister of Social Affairs of the Republic of
IndonesiaonAdvanced Indonesian Cabinet who took office since December 23, 2020, which
was entrusted by President Jokowi to him

I think this is the time for women to be considered not only to be led, but also to lead.
Women 'do not have to dominate' men but how to make the relationship between the two
balanced and harmonious, sharing roles both in the family, society to the stage of building
the life of the nation and state If in the past women were only constructed as administrators
or household managers, Currently, not a few women occupy important positions in various
fields and even become leaders.
“By creating opportunities for women to play a role as leaders, I believe it will have a
positive impact, namely the creation of gender equality. If it is discussed in terms of the way
of leadership, of course there will be differences between men and women where women are
not always always with a feminist attitude. However, women also have a side of feminism
and masculinism when leading. The characteristics of feminism which are oriented towards
gentleness, systematic, intuitive, multitasking and sensitive to others strongly support
women's leadership style.
In leadership run by women, of course there are challenges and obstacles to be faced.
Like the assumption that women are not worthy to be leaders, the challenges of reform and
globalization require a leader to be able to manage and pay attention to all needs in order to
achieve goals. These challenges will be answered automatically by the ability of women to
actualize their leadership potential in the political, economic and social sectors.
