1. All personnel working at the work site are to be equipped with proper PPE (refer
clause 7.4 for PPE). Furthermore, ensure all the safety aspects are taken into
consideration and in place.
2. Coordinate with BT/MHI-SC representatives before and after the work activity. Secure
an incident number from the Dispatcher.
3. All relevant site conditions and working practices are to be checked at site.
4. Prior to the cable preparation work, survey is carried out separately to identify the
correct cable routing against the station layout drawings. Furthermore, the
1. Prepare the tools and equipment needed to working at an elevated platform. Most
signal lanterns are installed not more than 4 meters in height. A single stage light duty
H-Frame is sufficient to comfortably and safely to work on. Provide an adjustable base
jack with large wood board at least 3” thick as an additional base.
2. Existing signal lantern are mounted in 3 methods, either wall, post and ceiling
mounted.
CEILING MOUNT
5. Check the wall, verify if there are existing conduit and the wall is strong enough to hold
the mounting bracket. Verify if it’s made of concrete, fibre cement or drywall. If fibre
cement/drywall ensure that the bracket is mounted on the stud that support the
existing bracket and could carry the weight. If not provide a secondary post below the
wall mounted signal lantern.
i. Route the cables with enough slacks so when the new signal light will be
transferred to the existing bracket, no need to provide additional termination. This
procedure to all types of new installation.
6. Check that the conduit running on the post when fix will not impede in the removal of
existing conduit, the same also with the temporary bracket. Fluid tight flexible conduit
shall have enough slack to reach the existing bracket during de commissioning stage.
7. Ensure that the bracket / support is tight enough not to move during train operation of
Line 3.
8. Follow the dimension given, to ensure signal light is within the line of sight of the train
operator/pilot.
10. Stations where there is limited space on the existing signal lantern, or has the
danger of being hit by incoming train, will be placed on the other side of the platform.
This could be on the south or north bound. It will be oriented in the same way of as
the existing signal lantern. Refer to the figure on item 6.4.11. The new signal in red
11. Conduit shall have a temporary conduit box located near the existing signal
lantern as a termination point once the new signal light is transferred to the existing
platform.
12. Ensure that the ceiling mounted bracket / support is well secured and tighten
not to fall during operation. Hole for the expansion bolt in the concrete block should
exactly fit the bolt so that during tightening, the bolt will hold its position firmly.
13. Provide adequate conduit clamp securely bolted, especially conduit that run
along the ceiling of the track’s platform. Be aware of object that might fall in the
catenary cable.
14. Verify cable termination and tagging, terminate cable using the required tools
to the corresponding wiring block or connectors on the LED module.
15. Harness wire inside the LED module box, cable tie if necessary.
16. Ensure gasket and seal are in place before closing box.
17. Apply temporary power rated for the signal lantern to test.
