1) What is the difference between the history and the past?

The key difference between the history and the past is that history is ever changing while past cannot
be changed.

To further explain the difference between the two, let me start with the past. Past is absolute. It is
defined as events that happened, known or unknown and it cannot be changed. The actors that
executed the action and the events cannot be changed that is why it is absolute.

On the other hand, history is ever changing. History is defined as an intellectual discipline, a journey
and always changing through time. Why history is ever changing? History is ever changing in terms of
point of view or what we also call perspective. History is based on the various perspective of different
individuals. Let us say you and I are neighbors and a fire occurred on our neighborhood yesterday. The
past is that a fire happened yesterday, but the history is up to us depending on our perspective during
that time. What may be a truth to you regarding that incident may be a lie in my perspective. That is
why history is ever changing. As more sources surface, another perspective comes out, resulting in
another intellectual discourse. As time goes by, sources regarding the events (past) comes to light,
and so is history being shaped depending on how an individual viewed that source. Thereby making
history ever changing.

2) Why are there historical conflicts especially in the views of Philippine History?

Past events are being passed down through generation written or unwritten. And these past events
are being written or told by certain individuals. Every individual has different perspectives or point of
views therefore varying on what they had told or written.

A concrete example for this would be the Cavite Mutiny that happened January 20, 1872. This past
event was written by three different people, with three different perspectives, therefore having three
different versions. These differences create conflicts regarding on which of three is the correct one
creating a friction on which to believe.

The varying perspectives or versions gains their own believer on which in their perspective is telling
the truth therefore creating a conflict in an argument or stand that what they believe that is true is the
truth.
