Combustion Wrapper Horizontal

Info
Joint Modification bulletin
PSIB 20120531A

Overview
The combustion wrapper casing is part of the stator tube structure that supports the combustion cans and forms the forward
boundary of the compressor discharge plenum. General arrangement is shown in Figure 1. Between 1999 and 2012 several incidents
of hot air leaks were reported at the forward and aft end of combustion wrapper horizontal joint on GE’s 7A/7B/7C/7E/7EA/9A/9B/9E
and 9EC heavy-duty gas turbine fleet. In some cases, air leaks are addressed by re-torqueing the bolts. In others, a full length metal
seal was implemented.

Modified Horizontal Joint

New production units incorporate a modified horizontal joint that has a metal seal, which is also available as an optional modification
(CM&U). The metal seal at the horizontal joint has significantly reduced leaks.

Advisory
If leaks persist after re-torqueing the bolts, it is possible to implement the metal seal design on the horizontal joint (CM&U is required)
at the next planned HGP/Major inspection.
