1.0 INTRODUCTION
This specification describes the methodology of piping support selection and specification, to be
used in “Quellaveco Project”, belonging to ANGLO AMERICAN QUELLAVECO S.A.
(AAQSA).
1.1 WORK INCLUDED
This specification shows the supports selection and recording method (by lists), and also defines
the pipe supports identification in drawings and isometrics.
1.2 WORK NOT INCLUDED
The following items are specifically excluded from the scope of this specification:
 Supports for exhaust pipes or ventilation ducts.
 Dusty ducts catcher.
 Instrument piping supports
 Equipment Package piping supports
 Those different to piping elements.
 Pipe racks and Structural Towers.
 Special supports (structural design).
 No standard piping supports. Design information for these pipe supports can be taken
from drawing N° MQ13-02-DR-3000-PD4020@4022.

1.3 STANDARDS AND CODES
Referenced publications within this specification shall be the latest revision, unless otherwise
specified. All applicable parts of the referenced publications shall become a part of this
specification as if fully included.
Design, manufacture and testing shall conform to requirements stated in this specification, the
following codes and Section 1.4 has to be considered as applicable:

In addition, the design shall comply with all laws or regulations of local authorities. In the event
of conflicting requirements between the applicable codes and standards, the most economic shall
apply, previous approval from The Buyer.

Coordinate work prescribed by this specification with work prescribed by the above listed
specifications.
1.5 MEASUREMENT UNITS
The International System of Units (SI) shall be preferred, except for nominal diameters of piping
and fittings that will be specified in inches.
1.6 SITE CONDITIONS
See chapter 1.4 above.
2.0 GENERAL
The range of the standard number for different types of supports is indicated below:

3.0 SUPPORT IDENTIFICATION SYMBOLS
Each pipe support shall be identified on the piping Isometric by one or more frames containing
the support designation. The frames shall be connected to a support symbol with a leader line,
with its arrow pointing to the support location.
4.0 SUPPORT DESIGNATION
4.1 GENERAL
Generally, one frame will be used to identify the method of support. The frame shall be divided in
2 sections. The top section corresponds to the support number on the isometric. The bottom
section corresponds to the support design standard number or special support detail number.

4.2 MULTIPLE COMPONENT SUPPORTS

component of the support

4.3 EXTRA STEEL SUPPORT
Pipe support assemblies incorporating extra steel arrangements of the types shown in the pipe
support standards shall have a second frame indicating the arrangement type and steel designation
code.

4.4 MULTIPLE PIPE SUPPORTS
Where several pipes are supported by a single extra steel support assembly, the isometric of one
pipe will include a frame to call out the extra steel.
The isometrics for the rest of pipes supported by this extra steel will show a frame denoting the
extra steel as “Ref”.

4.5 SPECIAL SUPPORT DETAILS
Special pipe supports (structural design) or no standard pipes supports that do not consist of
elements contained in the support standards shall be detailed on a separate support drawing.
A unique item code will be assigned to each special support detail.
In these cases, the frame on the isometric shall reference the item code.

complete in the details rather than using frames which attempt to denote the mixed types.

4.6 SUPPORT LIST
The “Support List” will include the followings points:
4.6.1 INDEX
The “Index” shall include the piping standards supports (See Attachment 3) in which all supports
to be used will be listed. The index content shall have at least:
 Support Identification.
 Isometric Number (If required).
 Revision.
4.6.2 RECORD
The project will have a general record of all standard supports installed in each area. The record
will include:
 Each support by Tag Number.
 Weight of each support.
 Coordinates.
Observations cell: It is possible to include here information for pipe stress analysis, from or to, or
relevant information to be considered for installation or purchase.

4.7 GENERAL NOTES
4.7.1 MINIMUM WORKING LOADS
The minimum working design loads to each support will be taken from Table 1 of MSS SP-58
standard.
The system classifications must be according to piping operating temperature.
4.7.2 MATERIALS
Temperature and allowable stress to supports materials from MSS SP-58 Section 4.
Standard Structural Shapes and materials to be used have been established by project structural
discipline. See attachment 1
4.7.3 PAINT SCHEME
Unless otherwise indicated, pipe supports shall be painted according to scheme P2-A and paint
color as indicated in table 10.1 in document “Paint Technical Specification - MQ11-02-TE-0000-
GA0001”.
