ADVANTAGES OF ADS-B

Less cost of equipment: Based on inexpensive

implementations. ADSB/WAM integration with Indra’s ATC Systems

system components with PC architecture.
Less infrastructure cost: A single reception
station is enough to cover the equivalent Mode S
MSSR range (250NM).
Less maintenance cost: No moving parts
involved.
Refresh rate: Less that one second as opposed

ADSB, WAM, MLAT implementations

to 4 seconds for MSSR.
Optimal usage of radio spectrum: no
information is sent out to interrogate aircrafts.
It allows to control Air Traffic in areas where
MSSR is not available and it is not viable to install
MSSR. 19
01 ADS-B – Ground Station System Product Overview

DRAWBACKS OF ADS-B

 Dependant on GPS service

implementations. ADSB/WAM integration with Indra’s ATC Systems

Availability of Equipment: Even though the number of aircratfs
equiped with ADS-B is growing, there is still a significant amount of
aircrafts not equipped with ADS-B.

 Maturity of Technology:

 There is still a large

number of aircrafts that

ADSB, WAM, MLAT implementations

present errors on the
information sent.

 ADS-B standards are still

under revision.

MLAT TECHNOLOGY IS INDEPENDENT AND

COOPERATIVE

INDEPENDENT: Aircraft position is

implementations. ADSB/WAM integration with Indra’s ATC Systems

calculated from the ground , and is
therefore independent of the avionics.

COOPERATIVE: It requires a
transponder onboard the aircraft.

•At least FOUR antennas are requires to

ADSB, WAM, MLAT implementations

calculate a 3D aircraft position.

•Where aircraft altitude is know, like in

airports, THREE antennas are enough for
position calculation.

To enhance the safety of the flights by providing the controllers

with information of air movements from Surveillance Sensors such
as Radars, ADS B, Multilateration Systems and Weather Data,

implementations. ADSB/WAM integration with Indra’s ATC Systems

Planning information such as Flight Plans, Route Availability and
Flow Management and communicate control via Voice and Data
Link

Aircon 2100 is one of the

most advanced, safest and
more reliable automated Air
Traffic Control System and in
a continuous evolution path.

ADSB, WAM, MLAT implementations

Operating in over 50
countries worldwide,
integrating the latest & most
advanced ATC functionalities.

controllers.
 Uses High Resolution Monitors (2Kx2K,
1600x1280, 1Kx1K).

Integrates all information (radar, FP, DF, maps,

MET, ADS/CPDLC, etc) , able to be accessed

selectively.
Designed for both radar (executive) and
procedural controllers.
Colors are used to distinguish flight’s ownership,
emphasize alarms, distinguish objects.
User can configure desired colors, symbols, etc. 54

track or any track correlated
with a non RVSM equipped
flight plan and located inside

 Navigation Integrity Control (NIC) Indicator.
 ADS Emergency mode indicator.
Predicted Route (two next waypoints) from ADS, available.
ADS event indicator: Whenever any of the requested events of the
ADS contract are fulfilled ,this circumstance is indicated until
acknowledged by the operator:
• Altitude Range (AR);
• Vertical Rate (VR);

deactivated.
If the route differs from the filled in the

MEDIUM TERM

ATCOs Workload will be reduced due to automatic verification

of actual Flight Plan (FP) against their calculated profiles.
New parameters, such as fuel load, will be available for ACC

profile calculation. This information will be available to ATC
Systems through Directed Interrogation Messages (ASTERIX
Cat. 7).
Complete replacement of SSR by SSR Mode S.
Technology mix to service areas with low radar coverage and
to have redundancy where needed (MSSR+ADS-B).

LONG TERM

SSR Mode S Radars will be deployed where circumstances will make

the cost-effective:
Sites with good coverage and existing radar infrastructure.

implementations. ADSB/WAM integration with Indra’s ATC Systems

 Sites with limited communications infrastructure.
Sites where a Primary Radar (PSR) is needed.
ADS-B will become more and more important for surveillance, due to
its cost-effectiveness.
MLAT Technology, specially WAM, will become the alternative for
those areas where SSR is not viable, such as very mountainous
areas.
