Internet of Things

With the everyday passing, we’re entering in the newer era of technology. Take a look around your
surroundings. You can see many devices working for the better quality of your life.

Ever thought why they’re becoming more intelligent and efficient?

These things or devices are what we call INTERNET OF THINGS (IoT)

Devices comprising of electronic chips, sensors, severalsoftwares when connected to one another by
some network (internet) making them capable of collecting and exchanging data makes the complete
recipe of IoT

First we see the lifecycle of IoT. It consist of 4 things

1. Firstly it collects the data

2. Secondly it communicate with other devices and server

3. The server then analyze that data.

4. On the analysis of data, the specific actions are performed

Collect —> Communicate —> Analyze —> Action

Now we see How IoT Works?

For the working of, we mainly need 4 things

1. Sensors

2. Framework

3. Cloud server

4. Mobile applications

The sensors measures the daily actions, routine and also physical quantities such as temperature,
moisture, sound etc and converts them to electrical signals which are then transmitted through gateways
using several mediums such as WiFi, LoPAN, Bluetooth etc. The data that is transmitted through
gateways are then stored and analyzed on the cloud server by the help of data analytics. When the data
is processed, a result is generated which is the action to be performed by the device. This intelligent
action make our simple devices Smarter. The end users can then control and monitor their devices from
remote areas. We can also send commands to our devices.

As no one is perfect, IoT also have some Pros and Cons

First we see some advantages of this.

2. We can see that communication between machines become easy. IoT enable devices to have Machine
to Machine communication for a better result.

3. It decreases the Human intervention and make the machines to do work on their own which leads to a
faster and accurate output.

4. Machines will make decisions of their own by analyzing your daily routine. Let’s say we have a Smart
Refrigerator. It knows what to order if something is missing in it by the analysis of your routine.

5. As they make decisions on their own so it saves a lot of time.

6. As everything is done by the help of technology so it increases comfort level, convenience, better
management etc. in short in improves the quality of life.

Now take a look on some of its disadvantages

1. Over dependency on technology may cause trouble if your IoT devices stops working. It will stop your
lifecycle too.

2. Increase in smart devices will result in decrease in Human Resources and Unemployment will occur.

3. The complex nature of IoT is one of it’s Con. We need a continuous internet and power supply for them
to work.

4. Devices compatibility is one of main issue because of different standards of connectivity.

5. It also increases the risk of losing privacy. As your neighbor also have the same device so what if he
knows about your medications and financial situation?

Some Examples of IoT

1. Smart home Security

2. Smart Lightning

3. Smart AC

4. Smart Mirror

5. Smart Refrigerator

6. Hydroponic system

So what’s IoT now?

It’s a mixture of Artificial intelligence, Machine Learning, Big Data and Electronics. In 2025 we will have at
least 7 devices connected to a single person

“Everything is designed but few are designed well”

Feedback: An essay is supposed to be informative and original. The content of the essay seems to be
very Wikepedia like. It is informative but fails to capture the imagination of the reader at all. I personally
lost it in the first paragraph. If you want to write essays make them interesting, intriguing and more curious
for the readers.
