An analysis of the reading: “Extreme perception and animal intelligence”

In the reading “Extreme perception and Animal Intelligence, the authors, Temple Grandin
and Catherine Johnson, discuss the relation and differences between the exceptional
perception of animals and animal intelligence. The authors claim that many animals are
proof that they can show knowledge about the things around them. They talk about two
examples of unique signs of high intelligence in animals, the first example is about Seizure
alert dogs and the second about Clever Hans.

Speaking of the first example, these dogs which can predict a seizure before it starts are
a good example of animals using their extreme perception to solve problems. Nobody knows
how they do this, because this kind of sign isn't perceived by people. Also, one study found
that most seizure alert dogs were trained to respond to seizures, not predict them because
those are standards that any dog can be trained to perform, so they did it for themselves.

And as for the second example, Clever hans is a horse whose owner thought he could
count because Hans would tap out the number with his hoof in order to answer some
mathematical questions. Although a psychologist showed that Hans wasn't counting, and he
discovered that Hans could answer the question only when people who ask were in plain
view and already knew the answer, it was due to him observing unconscious clues that
humans were giving him without noticing it. No one has ever been able to train a horse this
kind of behavior.

In conclusion, animals can show intelligence apparently when they use and train by
themselves their special skills in order to solve or take control of new situations, in order to
the mentioned examples they are very similar due to the fact they did things that aren't
attributed to them, the fact that none of them needed human help to acquire their talents
and then decide to do something about it demonstate a sign of high intelligence.

My life on 2175
Since I was little I have dreamed big and I have always imagined great things that would
happen in the future, things like teleportation machines, flying cars or houses. Currently I am
still surprised by the way things happened, no one expected them to invent a way to make
me immortal, although I deeply appreciate it, thanks to that time I was able to achieve
several things. To date I have released 3 albums, I have surpassed Oasis in sales, it's just
amazing.

Anyway, apart from the fact that I am one of the greatest musicians today, I must say that
thanks to the time I had I was able to study and finish several degrees, I finished a degree in
administration, civil engineering and sound engineer, until Now I can't believe it.Thanks to
those careers I was able to develop in many more areas and generate even more money
than I already earn thanks to concerts and record sales.

In addition, I was able to buy houses in places that I always wanted to visit and even live,
before the maximum was to be able to have a mansion but currently living in a flying
mansion with a teleporter included is the best of the best, obviously I am the owner of one of
them and it is a something absolutely out of this world, imagine being in the world of star
wars and buying a mansion, just as you imagine it is, even better.

But finally and the most surprising of all is probably the family that I have, I got married and
had a little daughter whom I named Clementine, I also have two grandchildren, one named
Donovan and one named Ahsoka, they are "little devils" so to speak, the I am truly proud
and happy of my family, because I could not ask for a better one, since in these times
technology has served to unite even though in the past technology separated families, today
it is quite the opposite.

In conclusion, I Am infinitely grateful to the scientists who managed to make me immortal, I

have lived things that with an average life I would not have been able to achieve, everything
I achieved based on my effort has been fully rewarded, I have a good family, an incredible
musical career, a wonderful house, I have traveled all over the world, I mean, how could I
not be happy? it is simply impossible to say that i’m not.

Writing 2
I always dreamed of the great idea of being able to live twice as many years, I even thought
about it the other day ,especially because I would have more time to be able to do or
achieve things that with my average life I could not, that is why if there was a pill that would
make me live twice as many years and without diseases of course that would take it without
hesitation.

One of the first things I would do if they invented that pill would be to study the careers that I
like or finally dedicate myself to my passion, since with twice the age I have more time and
opportunities to see if I can access and achieve what I want, Apart from the fact that the
money and happiness that I can give to my family is going to be pleasant without a doubt,
specially to my mother because she would be happy as a clam.

Regarding the issue of what my house would be like, with the money I made thanks to the
careers I studied or the money I made thanks to the music I make, I would undoubtedly buy
a big house in England, I would probably buy houses all over Europe, due to that my biggest
dream is to live in that continent, thanks to the fact of being able to live there I could visit
various places of interest to me and that would make me very happy.

I must also say that with twice the age I would think twice about the decision to marry,it's not
because married life is dark or anything like that, is just because sincerely I would use every
minute of my time to achieve what I want, if due to fate something makes me rethink the idea
of getting married, then welcome to that moment but If it does not happen, then the truth is
that I would not marry, I would only enjoy my achievements or continue striving to get what I
want.

But hey, despite the fact that I would supposedly live twice as many years, maybe I don't
want to live them all, because if I get everything I want, I would not have felt to live until the
last of my days, it may sound very crazy or very poetic but After reaching the peak of my
beautiful career I would honestly like to leave some 20 years later because things in the
world are going worse, there would not be so much sense in continuing to live and live, it
would be like you are living your life with chains.

But in the case of getting married I would probably have a little daughter named Ellie, and
also two grandchildren, one named Donovan and the other named Ahsoka, I will call them
"the little devils", we would be a simple family among many quotes, since I would like to
travel a lot with them and to be able to give them everything that maybe at their ages I could
not get, but I would probably be a great father and a great grandfather who is always there
for when they need me.

Without any doubt, I would take a pill that would make me live twice as long, since it would
allow me to have more careers, more opportunities to excel, seek and achieve my goals and
because it would be a life worth living, in case everything goes well. sure, and all the things
lived thanks to that extra time would probably be amazing

Mandatory Volunteering Program

Mandatory volunteering should be canceled! Volunteering is an initiative that should

not be imposed or forced. This is totally true, in spite of the fact that volunteering is a
work with a very good purpose, the fact that it is mandatory makes many people have
several reasons to not be interested, not want to do it again or even hate it.It is because of
this that below I will explain some of the reasons why I sincerely believe that this kind of
mandatory volunteer programs should not exist.

First of all, although it may be thought that all students have to be organized in terms of
their time so that they can carry out different activities during the day, having a mandatory
volunteer program could take you time you need, and it is no longer possible to have a
properly established order, since despite the fact that one can be aware of their schedules,
there are always activities or situations that may arise in which they need us to attend them,
so that volunteering could not be attended, or it may even happen that the student have left
a job with a very limited time to do it, due to volunteering, and the student so determined
may have to turn it in without having finished it or even turn it incompletely, and by doing it
quickly the job could be with many errors.

Second, people may not be able to support an organization that interests them, this
point is important, because perhaps the students wanted to support an association that they
knew needed more support but even though the students have good intentions, with the
mandatory volunteer program they could be put in another organization that already has too
much help, or they may also have wanted to support an entity that was starting but now they
will have to support others, and I would like to highlight this point because it is the small
organizations, those that lack funds and staff that need the most help, because they may
have the best intentions in the world to help but without enough numbers they could not do
as much good as they would like, in other words, it will take away the satisfaction of
knowing that they have helped those with very little help.

And third, last but not least, students/ people may have to support an organization in
which they learn little or poorly, this is a very critical situation, because maybe You may
have to support an organization where they do not give you good training so that you know
what you are going to do or have to do, and i say this is critical because, even if they are
people who can say that we have to learn fast to be able to help even if we are not prepared,
It is imperative to know that even though we have the best intentions to help, there are
tasks that we must learn well how to do if we really want to help and not get in the way, but
with the mandatory volunteering program this is not always guaranteed.

In conclusion, these reasons are what should make us reconsider the fact that there is a
mandatory volunteer program, because we could be harming people who really need our
help or supporting people who do not even take their work seriously by poorly training
people who really want devotedly give his time to support those in need, and in spite of the
fact that many people could think that volunteering programs are always good, these
reasons could give them new reasons to analyze the situation very carefully. After showing
all these reasons I ask this question, are we really helping by doing this kind of program?
