Thiruvalluvar
பிறப்பிடம் (Birth place)
Valluvar believed to have lived in Madurai and later in
Thirumayilai ( Mylapore in Chennai)

In 2005, a research team claimed Valluvar was born in

Thirunayanarkurichi ( a village in Kanyakumari). Their
claim was based on an old Kani tribal leader who told
them that Valluvar was a king who ruled the
"Valluvanadu" territory in the hilly tracts of the
Kanyakumari district.

In January 1935, the Tamil
Nadu government officially
recognized 31 BCE as the
year of Valluvar.

Valluvar married to a woman named Vasuki and lived in Mylapore

திருக்குறள் (Thirukkural)
1330 குறள் ெவண்பா (Couplets), 133 அதிகாரம் (sections). 10 kural each

Kural is composed of 7 words spread across 2 lines [4 + 3 words].

The work on wisdom is divided into three major chapters -

● அறம் ( virtue)
● ெபாருள் (wealth)
● இன்பம் (love)

approach to problems of life
Features
● The two words not used in the thirukural - தமிழ்(Tamil), கடவுள் (A word
meaning God in Tamil).
● First two or three kurals in every adhigaram start with defining the theme and
explaining its nature.
● The next few kurals take a neutral stand to judge the quality of that theme.
● The adhigarams then end with a strong judgement and condemns the way the
life could be if it deviates from everything that was said.

Colonial administration has dug
twenty seven wells in 1818 per Ellis
order, then Madras Collector to
quench drinking water shortage in
Madras. Periya Palayathamman
temple at Royapettai, Madras being
one of them.

steps initiated during drought. மைழயும், வலிைமமிகு அரணும், ஒரு நாட்டின்
சிறந்த உறுப்புகளாகும்.

second decade of 1800s(not for
circulation though)
