Ships in the Sea of Thieves

Within the Sea of Thieves are many ships, crewed by pirates on the search for gold. There are three types of
ship and there is also rowboats that can be attached to any ship. The three ship types are Galleon, Brigantine
and Sloop. The galleon and the sloop were the only ships on the waves for some time, but some pirates
decided that there should be another ship to fit in between the other two so the first Brigantine was made. A
Galleon is the largest ship on the Sea of Thieves and the Sloop the smallest. The Brigantine is in between the
two. A Galleon is a large ship with 3 masts, 5 decks, and 4 cannons a side. The decks are as follows: Poop
deck, Main deck, Forecastle, Middle deck, and Lower deck. The Poop deck is at the stern of the ship, forming
the roof of the Captain’s Cabin and houses the mizzenmast, steering wheel and ship’s binnacle. The Main
deck houses the cannons, both the main and fore masts, the capstan, a grating that allows viewing of the
middle deck, and a hatchway into the middle deck, and has the Captain’s Cabin at the rear, along with two
staircases either side of the door that lead to the Poop deck. At the very front of the Main deck is the
forecastle, a small platform that houses 2 harpoon cannons and allows access to the stem of the ship,
underneath which the figurehead is fixed. The Middle deck is where most things are stored. At the front is an
armoury, ammo chest, clothing chest and equipment chest. In the centre of the deck is a large table, covered
with a map of the Sea of Thieves, and off to one side is the storage for the food and grog, along with a small
kitchen. At the rear is the storage barrels for the cannonballs and the wooden planks, one either side of the
stairway into the Lower deck. The Lower deck is mostly empty unless treasure chests are being stored there.
The only feature of interest is the brig where troublesome pirates are put to cool off. A Sloop however has
only 1 mast, 1 cannon a side and 4 small decks. The Poop deck, the Main deck, the Map deck and the Lower
deck. The poop deck his at the stern of the ship but a little more forward than the very rear of the ship, with a
large canvas awning overhanging behind it. Once again, the ship’s wheel and binnacle is here, but it also
houses the Sloop’s capstan. The Main deck houses the mainmast, the ships cannons and harpoon guns and a
stairway to the Map deck at the rear. It also has a staircase to the Poop deck on one side of the stairs to the
Map deck and storage for cannonballs on the other. The Map deck houses the map, the armoury and ammo
chest, and a small stairway into the lower deck. In the lower deck is the storage for food, grog, and wooden
planks, as well as a small kitchen, the clothing and equipment chests. and a poky brig. The Brigantine is a
long low ship with two masts and 2 cannons a side. Oddly enough, the Brigantine has only 2 decks. The Main
deck and the Lower deck. The Main deck contains the cannons, the ship’s wheel and binnacle, both masts, the
capstan, a hatchway, a grating, and the harpoon guns. The Lower deck contains the map, storage for food,
grog, cannonballs, wooden planks, an armoury, the ammo, clothing and equipment chests, and a small kitchen
and brig. The rear of the Lower deck has been appropriated for a Captain’s cabin but doesn’t have a door. The
rowboat is a small, two man rowing boat that has one set of oars, a storage chest and room to store chests and
other treasures in order to shorten the number of trips to shore. These rowboats can be docked to the rear of
any ship. On a Galleon, the rowboat is attached to the railings of the balcony behind the Captain’s cabin. On a
Sloop, it is attached to the rear of the Map deck, under the canvas awning. On the Brigantine it simply
attaches to the very rear of the ship, behind the ship’s wheel and binnacle. These rowboats are particularly
handy when used in the Devil’s Roar, as they allow the player to traverse the superheated waters around an
erupting volcano safely, without risking losing the ship to the flying volcanic debris and keeping the pirate
safe from being boiled alive while they fish or ferry supplies back to the ship or do whatever it is that they
want to do. I imagine that it could come in handy for shooting at landbound skeletons from, safely out of
reach of melee attacks. It is only a small boat though so watch out for the ones wielding firearms. They may
be rusty, but they still pack a punch.
