Multiple PhD positions are available at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering
at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) according to the description

Description
Structural Engineering: Multiple PhD scholarships are available in the area of bridge
engineering (Assistant Professor Ilias DIMITRAKOPOULOS), structural dynamics (Professor
Lambros KATAFYGIOTIS) and seismic/concrete engineering (Professor Jun Shang KUANG).

Computational Geomechanics: Multiple PhD scholarships are available in the area of


computational geomechanics and multiscale modeling of granular materials, working with Prof.
Jidong Zhao on government funded projects. Please visit his homepage for further information

Eligibility:
This is a call for candidates with a bachelor degree and masters in civil engineering or
(equivalently) a diploma in civil engineering, who wish to pursue a PhD degree in Civil
Engineering at the HKUST.

Funding
Applications are invited for the above-mentioned studentships. The successful applicant will join
the research team of one of the above Professors, in either the structural engineering or the
geotechnical engineering areas. The studentship will be around HK$13,600 per month tax free
for a duration of three years. Further extension of half to one year of the studentship is grantable
if necessary. Outstanding students can also apply with the faculty members for a prestigious and
highly competitive Hong Kong PhD Fellowship (HKPDF) scheme. The successful applicant of
HKPDF would have a monthly salary of HK$20,000 plus other benefits such as conference
travel support.
