Review & re-Practice Note (-기 vs -는 것)
Base Stem + 기
+는 것 (는 거) 것/거 means “a thing.”
( 것 sounds like a textbook, so we’ll go with 거 in spoken form)
(irregular: stem ending in ㄹ 받침)
Abbreviation Form :
기를 : 길
거를 : 걸
거가 : 게
거는 : 건
1) S+O+V + 기
혼자 공부하기가 어려워요. 거가
한국어를 혼자 공부하기가 어려워요.
외국인이 한국어를 혼자 공부하기가 어려워요.
However, when used with an emotion verb such as 싫어요, 귀찮아요, 무서워요,
e.g)
I don’t like people yelling at me.
저는 사람들이 저한테 소리치는 게 싫어요. (in general) (o)
저는 사람들이 저한테 소리치기가 싫어요. (x)
-는 것: phenomenon/action in general
- 기 : one’s action yet to be done/ usually refers to what one hasn’t done at
current point.
-기 시작하다 (begin to V)
