41 Side-to-Side Directions Using Logic

Goal to use logical thinking to answer questions

Players 2-4

Overview Players try to move all of their tokens across the game board and into
the opposing triangle by answering logic questions.

Materials • Side-to-Side Game Items (pages 150-151)

• Side-to-Side game board (page 152)
• 3 game tokens for each player (A player’s tokens should all be the
same color, but they should be a different color than his opponents’
tokens.)

Game Play
 Photocopy the game board and place it within reach of all players. Each player
chooses three game tokens of the same color and puts them on the three spaces
in one of the outer triangles. If there are two players, the players must put their
game tokens in opposing triangles (either the two white triangles or the two shaded
triangles).

 Game play proceeds as follows:

• Select a question at random from the Game Items sheet and read it to the
first player.

• If the player does not provide a correct answer, his turn is over and play passes
to the next player.

• If the player provides a correct answer, he moves one of his tokens according
to the following “move rules”:

▪ He may either move a token onto any adjacent space OR he may make one
or more hops over other pegs.
▪ He may move in any direction.
▪ He may move his token onto any space on the board, including spaces in
triangles belonging to other players and triangles not in use.
▪ He may hop over any token, including one of his own.
▪ When he makes a hopping move, each hop must be over an adjacent token
and onto a vacant space directly beyond it.
▪ He is allowed to make multiple hops in one turn.
▪ When he hops over a token, he does NOT remove it from the board. Tokens
are never removed from the board.

 The first player to move all three of his tokens into his opposing triangle is the
winner. In the event that a token belonging to another player is preventing the
player from moving his final token into his triangle, he may swap tokens with that
player.
