ACTION TOPIC: Maintaining Work-Life Balance during the Pandemic

IDENTIFY & EXPLAIN:

Keeping school and personal life separate, always a struggle for teachers, is even more difficult
when they’re both in the same place.

One of the hardest parts of teaching from home is the increasing impression/blur between work
mode and home mode. Many of us are struggling to find anything resembling a balance when
teaching from home, but the uncertainty around when schools will reopen makes finding the
balance even more important.

GOALS:

a. To maintain mental health and promote positive well-being at work.

b. To lessen the burden of teachers both at school and at work.

PLANNED STRATEGIES:

1. Develop beginning-of-day and end-of-day routines.

2. Check email and notifications.
3. Focus on the task in front of you.
4. Add screen-free breaks during the day.
5. Find space for something you love.
6. If your mental health would improve, schedule one day to work late.
7. Incorporate mindful practices into your routine.
8. Recognize that being a robot does not produce the best version of yourself.

ACTUAL OUTPUTS:

1. Develop beginning-of-day and end-of-day routines.

2. Check email and notifications.
3. Focus on the task in front of you.
4. Add screen-free breaks during the day.
5. Find space for something you love.
6. Incorporate mindful practices into your routine.
7. Recognize that being a robot does not produce the best version of yourself.

OUTCOMES:

The teacher and the student will benefit to this. They will minimize or lessen the amount
consumed everyday went to the school.

REFLECTION:

Many teachers report feeling guilty while working from home, whether because they can’t help
students as much as they could previously, don’t feel they’re fully investing in their own
children, or don’t have patience for others because their fuses are short. The best we can do right
now is to give ourselves grace and reflect that grace onto others.
