Statistics is a powerful tool for our daily lives.

Even though we are not aware, we are constantly

applying the principles of statistics in our daily schedule, mostly unnoticeable. Its application is
so vast that even in simple things in life, we can incorporate statistics. I will discuss the different
uses of statistics in different aspects and parts of life.

The most obvious place where statistics is applied is in business setting. In business, accuracy is
important, and statistics provide the necessary data in helping business companies in acquiring
accurate estimates about the demand and supply in the market. It also aids companies to know
the exact cost and prices of products, and the trend of their sales in the marketplace. For the
individual performance of the employees, statistics can measure their weekly and monthly job
performance, which help companies to know the efficiency and lapses of their workers. At
home, statistics can also be applied. Such as when parents track their daily and weekly
expenses, allotting budget for week, and comparing monthly consumption of electric, and
water bills. In schools, statistics are one of the most utilized tools in running the institution.
Statistics is used when teachers and professors grade their students, when the students
evaluate the performance of their instructors, when students conduct their research and thesis,
when finance office computes for the tuition fees of the students, when the school system
assign students in different blocks and sections, and when the school evaluate the institutions
overall performance. For the current issues in our country, one of the best examples where
statistics is used was when the Commission in Audit shows the deficiencies and lapses in the
expenses of the different agencies and department of the government. One notable example is
the deficiency of the Department of Health in their expenses. This shows that public funds were
not utilized properly. Without statistics, the Commission in Audit cannot have this information.
Also, statistics is used in helping PAGASA for predicting the weather in the Philippines. Statistics
are used in tracking the number of COVID-19 cases recorded per day, the number of the total
cases in the Philippines since 2020, the number of people recovered, and the number of people
succumbed to COVID-19.

In conclusion, statistics are very useful not just in our daily lives but also in the society. When
utilized properly, it would be very beneficial for us, individually, and for the whole human
civilization.
